Hi,

All of these are first attempts so I really would like to know what you all think.

The tree is wire frame with flexi-bark painted on it (does anyone else use this stuff?)



This figure is WW2 British soldier.



These sand bags are hand made from oven drying modelling clay then painted.

very nice tree!!!!, personally i use the ends of bushed :S (dont think my mum knows yet...) will get a pic up later once iv found the camera.

the figure is very good steve, but you have not done his eyes!!! for a really good way to do them, see the figure painting tutorial (first paint white, then colour of iris, then dot of black for pupil, although that i quite hard at 1:45 i just do the white and black!)

nice idea for the sandbags! if you ever need to think about barbed wire we had a very long thread on it a while back..should be in general chit chat somewhere!

yeah the eyes, i do want to try it out and do it but im a bit afraid of ruining the whole figure by making it look stupid - anyone got any old figures i can practise on? lol

Steve,pictures like these are great talking points,the tree material looks interesting,I used to make trees by twisting florists wire together with the branches sticking outwards,then the trunk and branches are painted and placed into the chuck of an electric drill,pieces of cotton wool are placed into a large old paint tin after first mixing in some enamel paint,any old household stuff will do as long as the colour looks like foliage,wear rubber gloves and carefully spin the trees into the cotton wool/paint mix,the branches then pick up the cotton wool,carefully snip off and place into a lump of plasticine to dry out.

Best to make a batch of trees to make the job worthwhile,they look good and are cheap to make,especially if you have a lot of old household paint to get rid of.

I have always made trees from real twigs in the past. You obviously need a type that lends itself to scale appearance but get that right and they can look superb.

As for the eyes, you need to do them first so I wouldn't run the risk of spoiling something that you are happy with.

I would get hold of something to practise on such as a set of Airfix 1/32nd figures or something before committing to something you are otherwise happy with.

The last figures I did I wasn't confident enough to try the eyes either so I shaded the face as though the figure is squinting and it looks good enough for what I wanted at the time.

another method i`ve seen of doing trees steve, jus to try and isn`t very costly,

is a wire frame to teh shape your after, then coating in glue, from a hot glue gun, teh o gauge model rail guys where showing this, and once painted really looked the part.

Quick update - i now have the tree painted. Simple plain brown base coat and you probs cant see it but I dry brushed a mixture of the same brown, a small touch of black and a small touch of white just to highlight bark texture.

Right i cant remember what itis called but i have some sheet material. Its like a very very thing scouring pad with scatter all over it. you can rip a bit off and postion it on the tree. its not bad stuff but im not totally convinced by it.

Sorry for some reason the post went wonky. I was trying to say that I just made the tree up, I never really modelled of any tree as such, just got to twisting and bending and hoping for the best.
