John has mentioned it somewhere but I can't find it. Any images posted on the old forum couldn't be imported properly onto here. Something about the format xenforo used.

Chris, I don't know how you actually post an image, in that I don't know how you store images on your PC.
Basically. You put the images you wish to post in a location on your PC that is easy to locate. For me, I put them onto my desktop.

I have circled the images I used for putting in my Helix thread.

On the post you wish to insert a picture, Select Upload Attachments. You will get a pop up box of your PC, navigate to where your images are and select one. It will then up load to the forum and when that is done you will see a small thumbnail image with the choice of size, small - medium - large - actual size. Choose one and it will appear in the thread!!

Not dissimilar to the last forum really. Give it a try in the testing thread and good luck.

You can still visit the old threads and see them. They are only closed for comments and further posts.
It was done to stop new members dredging up old posts from the way back when. John and I agreed that the original one year was a bit short and it is now posts that have been inactive for five years.

Does this mean that, in effect, an unexpected consequence of the switch is that the history of the site has been lost? That’s a great shame if true.

I closed threads that haven’t had a reply for a year, I’m going to change that to 5 years, but I don’t see why it would stop you visiting them if they are closed?

Everything is still there just the images are a bit small but it only really affects recent posts, it’s not often people go back to old posts, it’s not dead in the water they are still looking in to it.

It would certainly be nice if pictures in the old threads could be seen larger. At the moment I don't think there is any way to view them at a decent size. Definitely not a priority but older threads are remembered and used as reference.

All good here John. I have to say that I think the new site has a good freshness about it if that makes sense. I hardly notice much difference from the old site in navigating around the new forum and personaly I like it.

I've been away while all the changes have been going on, so taking less interest in the forum - fully expecting it to be fine in due course (I'm sure it will be).

But - I must agree that it's a shame many old images are now just thumbnails. The forum has been an incredibly useful resource for me in reviewing my own work. The process of making build and completed threads ordered and annotated my images, so I didn't need to sort out the originals on my phone. Although I have the originals, the easiest way for me to hunt them down was on here! My problem, I know, but a shame nonetheless.

It's thumbnails on others' posts that is the real loss for me. So much of what we do is fundamentally visual, and to lose so much of that visual resource library is a great pity. Not a complaint, mind, just an observation.

I'm glad to see old posts won't be closed to comment for five years (instead of one) shortly. I do like the ability not just to view old posts, but to comment and thereby resurrect them - amazing how often doing so generates a flurry of comments and renewed interest.

Is there a plan to increase the size of the photographs to the previous size? Like Paul I find the larger format very useful - the thumbnails lose definition when enlarged and wonderful detail is lost.

I assume you are referring to the old posts Posting new pictures seems to be fine and can post several sizes from thumbnails right up to full size. Which is more than we had last time on the old forum.

As I've said many times now, they are looking in to it, it might not be possible, when you upload an attachment it's converted to a different file format so it's not just a case of resizing all the images in the directory

That's great John, glad it's still being investigated. If it's not possible, so be it. I completely understand that you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs.
