I don't know if it is just me but I find it slightly awkward to answer a question or respond in a thread when I don't know the member's first name. Somehow seems impolite to me not to include a name in my post. A lot of us have our first name as our user name and those whose user name does not include a first name it comes up because it is in the member's User Profile. I don't know how others feel and people may not wish to share their first name but if your user name is not stated maybe you'd consider adding it to your User Profile. Just go to User Profile - About - User Details, there you can enter your first name.
First names please

A lot of people dont like using real names......prefer the anonymity of a user name

Well, I get addressed on here by both my username and first name - they're both on the profile, if anyone cares to look, so I'm easy either way. Of course, being addressed by the username can feel odd, but I've had it, for various reasons, for forty-odd years now
Jim, you do make a valid point about politeness, which can go hand-in-hand with friendliness. Paul, yes, anonimity is a reasonable thing too. We're all adults here...
Wait... Did I just say we're all adults? I think I just excluded myself!😂 2👍 1Comment

I get called all sorts of things on here I bet.
I think a lot of people have forgotten to update their profile after the switch. Many noticed their Icon was gone but the location and name also needs to be up dated... Location is great for the "Where can I buy xxxx" questions that pop up once in a while.👍 1Comment

I can't say it's ever bothered me what people call me, I've been called worse the Arnold or AJ - neither of which are my real name obviously but when I set up the account here I wanted a change from all the other forums I'm on where I use my real name...
Not that I'm a shady character or anything you understand, all that stuff with the tax office last year was just a misunderstanding.Arnold Judas Rimmer BSc SSc

Never bothered me - Dave isn't my first name anyway! Been called all sorts of things, including ' the Hulk - oddest was my German Boss, who always called me 'the pragmatic Mr Ward ' - don't know how that was intended , but I always took it as a compliment!

Something i find strange is not the name bit but not having an avatar
But thats just me.....ive been on so many forums in the last 25+ years and always liked having fun with avatars.....i get bored of having the same one for long and like to go finding things i can use as avs but to not have one at all seems a shame.......its a way of personalising your presencePer Ardua

Well, my first name is Tim, as you know. I’ve never understood the need for a “username” on a forum. It’s like you are ashamed of your real name or something…..only place I use one of those is on EBay. I’m known as Tim Bloke on my band’s WhatsApp group, but there we have a Dave Bloke, a Kev Bloke, a Graham Bloke, a Colin Bloke and a Davy Bloke, because we are the blokes that play blues. Sort’ve like the Ramones only older….and not as energetic…..👍 3😂 1Comment
