A kind gesture and a poppy

We tried to get one of the poppies at the Tower of London memorial to World War 1. To late they had all gone.

But on Christmas Day our youngest daughter handed us a card. It said that a poppy was on its way and she would present it to us when it arrived That was one of the best presents we could both have been given.

It arrived a couple of days ago. Sarah brought it around to us and o dear on the way to us one of the petals had broken off.

So pleased with the poppy. It is a beautiful thing not only in its self but for what it represents. Thought of doing a Laurie renovation which left me horrified.

Emailed a Ceramic Expert renovator. Explained what had happened and was it possible to repair it and what would that cost. I did think this was going to be rather and prohibitively expensive.

Just received an email. She said there will not be any charge just the cost of postage.

Obviously she had also been moved by the Tower of London poppy garden. I though that so very nice in this so often grabbing world.

There are still a few people around who can do a deed for nowt ........... and yes, the poppy's symbolism is immense.

I have to say, seeing the poppies at the Tower Of London was one of the most moving experiences I've had. Truly inspirational.

I only saw them from afar Mike. Must have been quite something. I had not realised that they were only there for that short time. Still We have our own poppy so that is quite something to be passed down in the family.

They are quite something to hold. Each one is different they were not produced to template.

When you hold it it is very strange as you are holding the memory of the life of a human being who gave their all.

By coincidence we have a large area of land, reclaimed from the sea, for future flats, in front of our flat. When we had been there I moaned (way way out of character ) about the heaps of unused pavings pipes left over from the construction of our flats. Also a block built store. Nothing happened so went in with another letter an ultimatum type. All was removed and so it was left vacant scrubby land.

Not to give up another letter what are you doing with it. Low and be hold two months later top soil was brought in and poppy plants and other wild seeds sown. Now we have a poppy filed to represent those who fought in WW1.

They have at the other end built a trench system with sand bags. Not very good but at least it is representative.
