    Hospital results.

Went to the hospital today for my results regrading my sleeping, or lack of.

I have got severe sleep apnea, the information the Dr showed me, from the device they strap to your head and wear for two nights, shows I am stopping breathing every two minutes-my oxygen levels drop, carbon dioxide rises and my brain brings me up from a deep sleep to make me move, snore and take in oxygen. This is happening 31 times, on average, every hour-a normal person is 4 times a night. My heart rate is averaging 107 BPM at these moments so is not good, I am sweating that much as I am doing a workout just keeping myself breathing, this also has a knock on effect with my Fibro so hurting all the time due to never relaxing...no wonder I am knackered!

I also have to inform the DVLA and my motor insurance But, better to me safe than sorry.

Have a machine coming next Tuesday that will monitor and help.

glad you figured that out, you must have been really struggling to get by during the day time.

I was given a simple gum shield arrangement to stop snoring and get better sleep and it worked wonders - I don't always use it now as I don't seem to snore as much but it made a difference. Hopefully you have some real life changing success which I have no doubts you will... probably rapidly too.

Sorry to hear all that Si.

What can they do to stop or alleviate this ?

Hope you are getting good treatment from the NHS. Seems that the lack of sheltered accommodation for patients dis chargeable from Hospital is causing many problems which is overspilling into normal running areas.

You are lucky Dougie. Before I sought shelter in a single bed I got a kick in the back side by you know who.

Yes, this machine that is coming monitors my breathing and gives me a slightly higher pressure burst of air through my nose to keep the airways open, it is supposed to be difficult to get on with at first, but results are good. It also means that if I am getting better sleep then my muscles and tendons are not cramping as much which, hopefully means I can do some more exercise and get some of the lard off-this will also help. I just know that I and my wife cannot go on like this, as I am knackered and she is knackered from me keeping her awake.

It is a device that straps to your head, you put a tube up your nose and all together it monitors what you're doing. I had to wear it at home for two nights and then you take it back to the hospital and await an appointment.

Finger crossed the kit helps you buddy - I'm constantly fatigued, only getting 2-3 hours a night at best

Tell me something though Si, do you have very vivid dreams?

Si I suffer with low oxygen levels due to emphysema so I have know what it is like when your oxygen levels drop, I hope they get things sorted out for you soon & you start sleeping normal.

That's all a bit of a bugger mate, but sounds like a solution is at hand with that machine.
