    PaulinKendal destined for the dustbin?

I've been completely distracted from modelling for the past several weeks, with a major life-change in the offing.

After twenty years happy residency in Kendal in the Lake District, this London boy is heading back down South. We're in the (slow, stressful) process of moving to East Anglia.

It'll be some months before we can make the move, as the house we're buying needs lots of work, but hopefully by Xmas we'll be living in the Fine City of Norwich.

The move has been prompted by a number of things - my retirement, a desire to future-proof ourselves by downsizing (a bit), moving somewhere with great opportunities for small boat sailing (a passion of ours), and moving to somewhere we'll be able to live car-free as driving becomes less sensible (as it surely will as we age).

It's also driven by seeing elderly relatives living in unsuitable homes that they regret not having moving out of in good time, until it becomes just too late to make a move and having a miserable end-of-life experience as a result. I'm only 65 and my partner is a few years younger, but we're not having that!

But mainly, we're doing it to disrupt our lives, push ourselves out of our comfort zone and keep life interesting. When we left London for the Lakes we were surprised by how many unforeseen, positive changes it created for us. We're sure moving to Norwich will do something similar, and we're really looking forward to it.

But it does mean my handle (PaulinKendal) will become redundant - what to do? Answers on a postcard, please.

Have fun with the move Paul. New places bring new challenges, but also new opportunities. I’m sure you will get loads out of it, we did when we moved to Somerset šŸ‘

Congratulations Paul; Norwich isn't too far from here so maybe we'll meet up at an Exhibition sometime. Hope all goes well with the move and you get the enhanced quality of life you're seeking. Happy retirement yoof!

Good luck with the move. Your thinking is sound. My dad rattled around in his big house for the last ten years of his life. The house was too big, he couldn't cope with the garden and he spent those years worrying about it all. He wouldn't listen to me.
Sounds as if you'll become PaulinNorwich.

Good luck with the move. My daughter went to UEA in Norwich and I grew to love the place. You'll like it there.

I'm sure our paths will cross, Steve.

I've also got a feeling I'll be getting acquainted with boatman as the house we're moving to is ten minutes walk from Norwich's splendid model boating pond - and I'm already sizing up suitable RC yacht kits to build in anticipation!

Very similar to my own dad, who worried hugely about his house and garden as he aged. Luckily he moved into sheltered accommodation, which gave him a whole new lease of life and, we're certain, enabled him to live longer as well as happier.

The positive influence of UEA (and the Art College, too) is certainly one of the attractions for us, Mike. Kendal is an 'old' town, and we know we'll be happier in a more multi-generational place.

Good luck with the move. I find moving very stressful, as I'm sure most do. Luckily I've only had to move 3 times as an adult, but like you, we (Wife and I) have an eye on one more move, to downsize in a couple of years, to something a bit smaller.
Hope it all goes as smooth as any house move can be.....

I live and worked in Norwich on the construction of their superb Millennium Library in the early 2000's, lovely city, nice people with that pleasing East Anglian accent! Lots of history and a thriving city centre with a covered outdoor market, lots of tranquillity in the Norfolk fens

Miko (beware those south of the border in Suffolk they have many strange ways! Ha! Although just over the border there's Hannants in Lowestoft, finest model shop outside of 'alifax! )

I've been pleasantly surprised by how many people have good things to sy about Norwich, a city that often seems to be largely overlooked.

Perhaps the only 'downside' I've heard mention is that it is unconnected to the motorway network. My guess is that that disconnect actually benefits the city - although I haven't quite worked out how!
