6th June - Lest we Forget

Anniversary of D-Day (Normandy Landings) today.

    "All gave some.....Some gave all".

Spare a moment of remembrance for all those that were involved in the planning and execution of arguably one of the most important turning points of the war.

    Thanx

All those who landed in France on D-Day and in the weeks that followed. All those who fought their way across Europe. My generation and all those that follow will forever owe you a debt of gratitude.

I’ve been there twice. Two things make very deep impressions on you. The size of the graveyards, which are heartbreakingly large, and the sheer insanity of landing at Omaha beach. Anyone that experienced those events has my utmost respect and admiration.

It definitely is a sobering experience - should you also wish to reflect on the inanity/insanity of war visit the National Arboretum and the Menin Gate; any of the War Memorials and places like Arlington and small village graveyards where you see so many familial names also put political failure into perspective ...
