    Bloody car technology....!!!!!

Done a couple of trips recently and my built in car sat nav did not have the roads I needed, so ended up using maps/phone, not a huge issue. But decided to see if the car sat nav can be updated..... Few searches online (I have a Hyundai) and it seems it can be, find website, find link, DL update file, (has to be DL'd to pc first and it was SLOW, took about an hour!), then transfer update file to usb mem stick (bit quicker but not much) and into the car I go....

But, nope, no success for me!
DL'd the update and tried to import it into the car via usb. But when i go into settings and then the Sys info/Update it says theres already a waiting update (seems to be "Infotainment" related?) but will not let me update, the "Update now" button is greyed out, so can't get rid of that and it will not let me upload the sat nav update either.

I don't use the Hyundai bluelink shite, (basically car manufacturers data collection tool) but I thought, ok, maybe I need that, so added my phone, DL'd the BL app connected to car etc, but again, no option to do the update?

So after faffing about for another hour, with no success whatsoever, I deleted the BL app, which then reset the car to default factory settings, so lost all my car settings, screen layout, button options, sat nav recent locations/history, lost phone BT connection, driver info, everything, so then had to spend another hour going through all the screens setting the car back to how I wanted it.....

    AAAAAaaaaaarrrrrhhhh!!!!!

Why oh why are these things never bloody simple? why do they have to complicate everything?

So bugger it, lifes too short, I'm not spending another couple of hours on this shite, the dealer can bloody well sort it out when it goes in for its service in couple of months.

    F*ckin cars...... and breathe......

I much prefer Google maps over the the built in Sat Nav, mainly for the live traffic updates and speed camera warnings.

This Hyundai one does have live traffic and speed cameras and TBH it has been ok since I've had it, apart from two recent trips where it did not have the road names we wanted, but they were also both new(ish) developments. But yep we used Google maps and found them anyway...

I also have a Hyundai. To be honest I can't be arsed to try to update the sat nav myself. I just go to the main dealers in Shrewsbury and they do it while I have a coffee.

Lol.....not just you......ive got a citroen.....2018 55k miles........never had a problem with it til recently.......its got an 'eco option' where when you pull up stationary the engine stops then starts again when you dab the accelerator.......stupid idea if you ask me.....may save fuel/polution but i think the battery/starter motor continually going thro the start up cycle is going to in crease wear on those......and its recently decided every time i start the car this option should be on.....so before i pull away i have go in and switch it off.....its only 3 dabs on the touch screen and to be honest its now become habit lol
all it needs is for a tech to plug in his diag and reset something but i aint taking it in just for that and be charged a fortune!

Remember when mechanics had to have some knowledge?.....all they do now is plug in a diag and the computer tells them what to change

We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no ones been

Yes, so flipping annoying, mine has auto stop/start, lane assist and speed limit warnings, all come on when you start the car, (you cannot permanently turn them off) and they all get turned off immediately when I start the car, every time. But then they come on again next time you start the car....bloody things do not stop beeping at you, its worse than a nagging wife....infuriating!

You need a specific start/stop battery for the eco mode to work on our Toyota.
The eco mode does more than just the above feature, also regulates other engine functions.
Ours has a manual on/off switch on the housing behind the gear lever
Just bought a new battery, just shy of 200 quid, but its the first one we have bought since it was new in 2011.

I had a Merc recently with satnav. It worked from a 13 year old disc (£60+ for an upgrade and the dealer couldn't tell me how up to date it was) so I didn't expect it to have all the new roads on it, but sadly it didn't recognise my home address. Whenever I wanted directions to get home, I had to use my sister's address.

I wouldn't have minded but my sister's house was only built about 20 years ago - I've been here for 40 years!

Agreed. But why is it that all my destinations are on the fold of the page?
