Card Fraud Attempt - Bloody Bar-stewards!!!

Get a text last night, sending me a code for one of my cards, which is normally what happens when you are trying to purchase something.
As I was at home not using that card, I knew it was not me.

About 30 seconds after that text I get a phone call, private no', If I don't know the number or recognise the name, I ain't answering, so I don't answer.
About 30 seconds after that I get another phone call, private no' so again, I don't answer.
Then about a minute after that I get a text from the card provider asking me to verify a purchase for £0.00 from a company called Invalueable, never heard of them and it obviously wasn't me.

Not trusting the text message, despite it saying its from the card provider, I go online and get the fraud no' from the card suppliers website, but it late Sunday night, so no-ones there.....[Sigh]
I look on the phone app for the card and there is an option to block the card, so I do that, card locked.

This morning I ring the card provider, go through security, etc and they confirm someone was trying to use my card to spend over £100 and that I did the right thing, by not responding to the phone calls and by blocking the card. They also confirmed that the texts were indeed from them, but the phone calls were not.

They have now cancelled the card and will be sending me a new one.
Be vigilant out there peeps, the scum of the f*ckin Earth are always looking to scam you one way or another....

Glad you didn’t fall for it Peter, it’s easily done if unfortunately.

I think most card providers have a block card option which is invaluable for situations like this.

    Geoff.

Nice work Peter, these scammers are creaming off millions each year. I get bombarded with emails telling me I will be banned from accounts I dont even have LOL.

TalkTalk are pretty good at weeding out scam emails; my spam folder (cleared every 30 days) currently contains 260 emails, some of which are obvious nonsens but some do a fairly good job of pretending to be my bank. I make a point of never answering on my phone any message that looks even slightly dodgy, so I wait until I can get on the PC and check the sender address.

Scammers are getting more and more convincing these day, it's a shame we have to be sceptical of things we really should take for granted

Miko (luckily I know a Nigerian prince who says he will cover any losses I incur) Ha!

Yeah. Somebody very thoughtfully created an account for me at Macy's in the good ol' US of A. All I got to do is order something and give my bank details.

Could have been useful if I'd ever been further abroad than Anglesey - and that probably doesn't count as I went over the bridge!
