    Generating AI backgrounds with Gemini.

Inspired by recent people placing their finished builds in a Gemini AI generated background I decided to try it myself with some of my car builds. Here's the results which I think are very effective. All the cars pictured are definitely my builds which have been embellished by the programme, in the last picture my build is the AC Cobra.

Quite mindblowing all the AI stuff today, would take a lot of time in photoshop and the AI would probably do a better job.

I am by no means a techie but saw what other members had done and thought I would have a go. Some attempts put a spurious car in the picture which had extra mirrors or different tyres to my builds.
The 944 in front of Table Mountain has massive parking spaces and the Diablo in front of the Collesium looks fake, the others are really convincing and I can confirm they are all the models I built. I love the Cobra on the Amalfi coast and the 930 in the Bavarian woods.

You do sometimes have to carefully vet the resulting image though.

I did one recently of my Hasegawa Typhoon parked on a runway. Gemini produced a nice photo, but there was something that niggled me about it. Then I suddenly realized that it had posed the model with the canopy and airbrake open, whereas my model only has the airbrake raised! It likewise did a weird thing with my Sea Harrier - this model has the canopy slid back/open, but Gemini insisted on posing it raised up as if it was hinged at the back.

Yes, some of my attempts ended up with mirrors, no. plates, aerials etc. depicted which were not on my builds. I wonder if our images are sometimes inserted into existing photos e.g. the Subaru rally car is definitely my model but the flying stones etc. suggest an existing image was used.
Overall though I really like concept.

I think Gemini generates the background image itself, as the seem to be a bit generic and the aircraft in my examples don't look 100% real - see the attached photo.

I have found it helps also to tell Gemini not to rotate or transform the source photo and to produce an Ultra HD image.

The background in this one is clearly generated - look at the aircraft just to the front of the tail fin of my F6 Lighning. It does not look like any real aircraft I can think of!

Wow, just spent 10 mins playing with it and using a photo of my recent Willys jeep.
                    This one....

I noticed there are now no wheel tracks so I asked it to generate the photo again, but this time with wheel tracks in the sand from the rear...

It had turned my jeep around!
I did not want it turned around so asked it again to generate a sandy desert background using my photo, but not to rotate or alter my photo, and it then did this.... so it seems to be stuck now....

But it is amazing what you can create in just a few minutes, I have already worked out that you need to be very specific, the more detail you give, the better the response will be....

So you can still see the black plastic base from the original photo.
Asked it to generate the picture again but this time to remove the black plastic base from under the jeep and it did this...

Lol, so its sort of camouflaged the base to look like a floor, but you can clearly see the base still.
So it would probably work best with a photo of scale model on its own, eg: on a plain background, not on a base or with other things in the photo.
So it has limitations, might have to be very specific about what you tell it to do.....but its still amazing....

Just noticed that it also changed the angle of the jeep, just a bit, so it looks more flat and in perspective with the desert, subtle but effective.
It also added the shadows too....

Like the photos of the jeep in the desert! Those are pretty realistic, more so than the ones in the workplace. Yes you have to be very specific with the prompt, and you can prevent Gemini rotating the image by telling it not to "'transform"' the plane/jeep/car whatever. Of course we are doomed, but it's our own fault, me made AI in the first place! 🤔🤔
