apparently the sets are worth a bit now !
Now that's worth knowing, I've still got a bit of old Bayko in the attic, ask him how much he'll pay for it!!

Mine was the Airfix 1/72 Stuka, my dad brought it for me when I was in hospital as a 7 year old. That was 37 years ago! (eeeeeeek). A little poignant really as he died a few days ago.

          Hi RyedaleChris:

Very cool story and I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. Being a new Father myself, it hurts very much to hear stories of Father and Sons sharing model building! Take care, Jeff

Mine was one of the Airfix historical figures of Richard I. I got it as an Xmas present. My parents bought the glue and two pots of paints a red and a gold. Why a gold an not a silver for the chainmail I do not know. I put it all together, then painted it, but it looked a bit silly as I could not paint the face and the chainmail was gold. I must have been about 10, nealy forty years ago!

LIke DaveT my first model I did as a kid was an F4, too. It was then that I decided airplane models weren't my thing and I started looking for something else.

my first model boat was the veron carribean coaster.

i used to have it in my bedroom window, until our cat knocked of the window sill and it got smashed beyond repair.i also had a veron tug at the same time.

My 1st build would have been in 1966, when aged 7.

Airfix VW Beetle, 1/32 scale, green plastic, with a nice tinge of dried bostic here, there and everywhere!! I couldn't have blamed anyone else as my fingerprints were all over it.

I think that was followed up by a Lotus Cortina, the only final difference was that the plastic was initially white!!

I will always remember my first kit, it was an Airfix tractor, although I think my dad actually finished it because I was getting glue all over the kit!

It started me on a journey that I cannot see and end to.... thankfully.

I was just talking about this very thing yesterday. My son (5) and I are making an Airfix Westland helicopter and I was thinking of my own first kit. It was the Matchbox P51 Mustang called Dooley Bird. That would have been around 1978. After 'helping' my own father build the 1:72 scale Hercules with Land Rover and Bloodhound missile combination, it was my first solo project. I wish I still had both of those kits now.
