I NEED A MOAN , 1/35 dragon sherman firefly vc

One for the tank guys , Need to get this of my chest gents , just started the 1/35 dragon sherman firefly vc , nice kit loads of sprues and lots of options nice little bit of pe , just finnished the workable bogies 10 parts to each one and move and work very well , my gripe is with workable bogies why do dragon use magic tracks which are single links and 3 parts to each link which when glued in place will not move ? WHY , I`m sure when finnished will make a smashing model - BUT .

even with a uneven dio base already made you would have to the quickest builder in the world to make the tracks and bogies work together , maybe I`ve missed a trick here please let me know , after Paul`s ( tri1cky66 ) advice I`ve now got 2 sherman tasca`s in the stash and they have workable bogies but with 2/3 part bandies which will move nicely once everything is done

Gripe over thankyou for listening , will post some pictures at the weekend.

I feel better now , I did moan to the wife but she thought I was mad moaning about a box of plastic , they really don`t understand do they lads LOL

    Hi richy

First thing no they don't understand but then again I don't understand xfactor and she loves it

And now to the model that's the same model I did on here "which way now" I no what your going through with those tracks they are a ball ache three parts just for one link aarrrree

I used plastic magic and after a lot of swearing at a plastic tank I got there in the end

Is the ground already built or could you make the ground fit the tracks like I did

    Good luck rich

Your need to buy Friulmodels track. My VC (same kit) looked lovely. Now you may notice the ED on the end of looked that because the GF broke it :-( I remind her most weekends.

I hear the 1:35 tasca firefly was supposed to be good too?

PS. first kit i ever made with my dad was a Firefly

Not sure if Bronco do the type you need but their tracks are also fully workable when done. Still three parts per link though, but they are 100% flexible. I have used them on a couple of tanks and have been well pleased with the results.

Richy even though they are a bit on the expensive side I woild go for Fruil tracks as already pointed out in the post above, that way you get a nice flexible track that you can move about to fit you tank. That being said they are about £31 a set but if you go to Panther models Friulmodel Metal Tracks ATL-94 - Sherman Firefly they are about £27.45 and a lot cheaper. The down side to these tracks and I am sure you know is the construction, but once you get the hang of them, they sit lovely on the model!

cheers gents , thanks for the link Andy I`ve used panther models quite a few times and they do some nice stuff , as for the friuls the construction does not worry me but are a bit expensive for me at the moment , trying to work to a monthly modelling budget so these are not really an option ,

            Thanks Guys

Hi Guys , firefly is primed - pre-shadded and now at this stage , did not go down the olive green route find it to dark , used various vallejo greens and grey greens , I quite like it but it will darken a bit once its had a wash and been weathered , as for the links I think I`m gonna give the dragon ones ago .

                cheers

                  Hi Richy

Sorry I've not been around for a while...

Personally, I wouldn't bother with the Fruil links. Shermans have 'Active' track and as such don't really display any sag. The kit's tracks will work fine if you glue them with liquid cement, let them go off a little, then wrap around the wheels. If you're careful, when they're completely dry you can carefully remove them for painting (if you leave two links unglued (friction fit).

I maybe a bit late on this thread but if it's of any help...

BTW, 3 links per track - that's nothing! Try the 6 pieces per link in Model Kasten working track!

The Firefly looks to be coming on nicely. It does look a bit light in colour to me, but I'm aware that the camera flash may have something to do with it, and any filters will also darken it.

Looks great, I'll have a scout round in case you've finished it!!!

                  Cheers

                  P
