    Sasso,

A very warm welcome to the Scale Models forum. I hope that you can find something of interest here and benefit from the resources we have available.

Many thanks for your first posting and sharing your picture with us. It just goes to show yet again how many varied mediums there are for modelling and how creative we can get with anything we have to hand.

I have actually made a model of a dry stone wall with English Sandstone which I found very interesting but I didn't have time to progress from there although there are people who make quite sophisticated stone models.

            Thats quite something Sasso.

We have a local monument built as a 'folly', called Penshaw monument. This is also based on a Greek original.

What is "maltese stone", something local or a specific type? I'm just curious as I have not yet used stone in any modeling.( not much call for it in boats).

              Maltese stone

              Good evenining Jankers,

Thanks for your encouragement. well maltese stone is a natural stone quarried over here. We use it mainly to build our houses so as you can imagine it is easily available and cheap. It can be worked with simple woodworking tools and i find it a very suitable material to make patterns over which i can obtain fiberglass casts. in this way you can make a female mold of a hull, coat it in resin, when dry chip away the stone and you have you have a perfect fiber hull. I have never tried a boat model but i sure see plenty of boats as i live in a fishing village which is also a tourist resort and my other two brothers are both crazy on boats(real ones).Glad to have made your aquantaince.

              All the best Sasso

wonwinglo, thanks for your warm welcome, stillfinding my way around the forum. I've taken a look at your picture gallery, the models are great especially the older planes. Are they assembled kits or built from scratch? I prefer building things from scratch and i would like to try an airplane model.Any suggestions where i can get hold of some plans(pictures and dimensions) of a simple model for my first venture?

Happy to have made your aquaintance,

                  Sasso
