    The Dioramaists...

    Yep!

Today I was taking a look a modeling magazine...I want to build models again and I was just looking for inspiration

Is an opinion....is your as well?

I see fantastic single models (planes, tanks,...) with a perfect thecnical paintwork.

Then, magnificent dioramas! Someones quite simples, but with an excellent work, and others with an incredible colour and imagination.

But, then again, I see just simple bases, more of them built without figures or vehicles, but the level of detail is amazing...it's difficult to believe is a replica!!!

So...if we take those "great" modellers, we can say that the level skill is:

    First vehicles...

    Then dioramas....

And the best ones are the modellers that build these little bases?!

    Cheers

The message is: they seems to be "bored" to produce excellent vehicles with perfect modulations and weathering effects. And, now, they has the capacity to recreate these amazing and original bases!!!

I had an architect girlfriend that she always said me.... Less is more

    Now I understand it...and it's true!!!

I admire these modelers!! Don't you?

Or I'm on a personal crisis??!?

I think that all have there place. Static models are ideal if you have space issues, small vignettes or dios can be made add depth to a static piece.

I love doing dios, it gives me more to play with and create. I have seen some truly outstanding pieces, ones that I drool over...think mine have a way to go to get to some of those lol.

Less is more, one thing I was told is to plan your board. Your main focus is the model, the board should compliment or add to model-not detract or overshadow it, something that can be difficult to achieve. I know a guy who makes static models and they are superb, but he admitted that he didn't have the first clue how to do a board.

The small vignette boards can be stunning, true detailing, good eyes and a very steady hand with great imagination.

I love looking at the dio's on here..... If i ever attempted one, it would probably be a close copy of something or someone else's effort.... I think a really good dio requires not just skill, but an artistic eye as well..... Theres a fantastic beetle dio on these forums somewhere, which is one of my favourites..... Right then, im off to find it

We've seen some great dioramas and bases created here over time. Very envious of a realistic looking base and scene, especially those that include water effects. Ian's Bf109 lake side scene still under construction is a nice example of that.

I do like a good diorama. One day I might actually manage one. If it will be good or not is a different kettle of fish.

I like simple but some of the more complex diorama I have seen on here and other places, are brilliant.
