I never argue politics.... Each to there own..... But I did enjoy Jeremy paxmans destruction of Ed Milliband on C4.... Wouldn't vote for that muppet regardless of which party he represented.

Your and my right to vote has been bought and defended with much blood, as has your right not to vote, but be careful what you might inadvertently allow in through the back door. If you don't vote then you may have changes in which you have had no say imposed on you. You might not like them much. Ultimately 'change' might be imposed by a minority, and that's the first step on the road to totalitarianism

If no one exercises their right to vote why bother having it ? It's the sort of argument that Hitler, Stalin or Pol Pot would have understood.

            Cheers

Your right Steve the point I was making and I admit I should have made myself more clear is for everyone not to vote , every time I speak to people and politics comes up they always moan about the government either doing something they shouldn't or not doing what they should then a real message needs to be sent and the only one they would understand is if we all wrote none of the above on the bottom of the ballot paper and put a cross next to that

Never happen I know but be good if it did , I'm a floating voter because ive worked it out and my vote goes to the party that will do what's best for the country , only problem with that is they are lying toe rags that don't give a stuff about any of us or the country and just do what they want due to them following an ideology

The only other way is to use a protest vote in the locals , I do this sometimes to send a message but I always vote for a main party in the generals

That's cool Alan. Anybody is entitled to forego their right to vote (though obviously you don't).

The problem is when politics and politicians become so disconnected from the realities of our everyday lives, or become so similar, all forming policies on what they think we'll vote for rather than on any principles, that many people become so disenchanted that they don't vote. We are in that situation at the moment and the antics of the political class (expenses fraud, cash for questions, politicians showing open disdain, calling policemen 'plebs' and all sorts of other corruption) don't help. I entirely understand why many people don't bother. Most of the people I work with are somewhat younger than me and of those who are prepared to state a position NONE intend to vote. This is not just disappointing, history teaches us that it can be dangerous.

                Cheers

As someone who has been actively involved in politics since 1974, though I play little part these days, I fully understand the low opinion in which todays politicians are held. Likewise I appreciate and understand the cynisism about them and what they say.

That said, Steve is right. We should all vote - it is important that we do so as democracy is a precous, rare and fragile commodity.

My own main beef about politics today is how freedom of speech has been undermined significantly since 1997. Not only do we see politically correct bullying trying to force people into a particular world view, but the law is also being used as a weapon in this. The appalling action of a certain particular MP reporting Katie Hopkin to the police for critisising him for postuering with a Pakistani flag is merely the latest example.

This tendancy is also helping create a generation bland politicians who's only 'virtue' is not to cause offense by fitting into the establishments straight jacket. This is regardless of Party.

Whatever you do, vote. Through not voting you actually encourge the most disreputable elements in politics who do not really care about democracy and freedom except to pay lip-service.

..........The Politicians play games with each other for their own personal agenda, learn & know nothing about history, and don't give a damn about any of us Jim ........ They are all the same the world over (some have fatter Swiss Bank accounts than others) ......... They just pay lip service to a different flag is all.

                              The only things a politicians worry about are;

                              What's in it for me.

How much can I claim on expenses without being caught.

How good do I look on TV.

How much money can I make.
