Best glue and fillers

Just wondering what others would recommend for filling fuselage seams, wing roots, etc.

I liked the idea of Vallejo Plastic Putty, but have read it takes a long time to dry and doesn't like to be sanded. I currently use Tamiya putty but find it too thick - I've had it a long time so maybe that's why?

Also, what's a good, strong glue that's easy to apply. Using Humbrol Pro Poly right now.

i have been using revell plasto recently with quite good results as it dries in about 15 minutes and i am not a patient person (hate waiting for anything),just ordered some mr surfacer 500 from hong kong so i will let you guys know what thats like when it arrives unless anyone already has some. as for glue i just use regular revell contacta and have not found the need to try any other apart from clearglaze for canopies.

I swear by Squadren Green Filler, the green not the white. The Green sands easier and smoother.

I use Squadron green and white putties.The white is the fast drying one.Im perfectly happy with them but they do contain Toluene.To put it in scientific terms,Toluene is dodgy stuff.So you need plenty of ventilation when using it.

I use green putty and Tamiya both of which I find to be good, I've not tried the Vallejo but from what I've read it might be worth a look

The matter of Vallejo filler, it goes off quickly.

Vallejo is OK but Plasto is better in my view, Mr surfacer is good for tiny cracks

Tamiya extra thin is good but Mr cement S is better, again just my personal point of view

Not that it matters in the slightest but here's a bit of trivia, Toluene is also the last letter of TNT - so you could get yourself some of the other T and a bit of N and have some fun !

I do fine with Humbrol Liquid poly and Revell contacter. For clear parts I reach for the Microscale kristalKlear. For sticking "other materials" to plastic it's Gator grip.

As for Fillers, I use the squadron white and green. I also have some good old humbrol filler 'cause it dries very quick and thins down nice with liquid poly...instant goop!

Revell Contacta Professional (4 years and counting from one bottle)

EMA Plastic weld for some jobs

Pound shop superglue

Squadron green sands really well and can be cleaned up without sanding, using acetone nail varnish remover.

Milliput is mainly for remodelling and modifying as it is a little messy for use as a general filler and doesn't dry quick enough for my liking.

I use Revell putty and I'm quite happy with it. As for the glue I'm quite happy to use Revell Contacta Pro (the one with the needle).

I bought ZAP superglue some time ago and so far so good...it does its job nicely. However that thing is quite expensive when compared with a pound shop superglue. Is that much of a difference between them?

Regarding Milliput...is it really that good and easy to use? I thought already in buying some to do some sandbags, bricks and modifying stuff. Never did it though as I'm not sure about it...

AFC, Milliput is great when used as modelling clay rather than filler - too much hassle just for standard filling jobs.

It is good stuff for modifications as it can be shaped using wet tools, fingers etc and when it dries (12 hours) it sands really well and can be scribed and sculpted.

I used Zap too and apart from drying up in the bottle really quick, I couldn't say if it was better or worse than quid shop stuff. Except you can get 12 tubes for £1 or 6 of the gel type for £1, so it would have to be mega better to be worth it....

Oh dear,here goes the old chemist in me! Toluene is actually not particularly nasty,as a young student of chemistry everyone got their knickers in a twist about the carcinogenic properties of Benzene which we had been merrily sloshing about the laboratory. Toluene,which is chemically similar to Benzene (the small matter of one methyl group being the difference for anyone who cares) became our substitute.

Trinitrotoluene is not difficult to make but is surprisingly difficult to detonate. It is a component in many well known explosives like amitol,minol or torpex.

I use the Tamiya putty and mainly Tamiya extra thin cement. I use just about any "superglue" though I quite like the Zap thick one for filling. I do use Mr Surfacer occasionally,the finer grades are really no more than a good primer.
