I no longer want to cancel my membership - good sense has prevailed!
When we've had a difference of opinion, I've never taken anything you've said as being personal Jim. But Alan's comments overstep that line as far as I'm concerned.
I don't know what I want to do. I'll miss the place if I go, that's for sure!
Just remember Patrick, we're all artists{ though unheralded} and thus temperamental and persnickety, just the nature of the beast. There will always be differences between us, but I must say that when I work on my projects I always have you in the back of my mind and you have made me pay more attention to historical accuracy because it made sense to me. Hate to think you won't keeping me in line anymore.........Jim

You know, you have something there.
Alan told me that you told him his work was superb, really great weathering, effects. Right, that is down to people like yourselves helping folk like Alan see things differently and adapt...thing is, I have also looked at Al's work and have got tips from him via you...so pissed off or not, we have all benefited from each other.
I'm not going to take sides on this difference of opinions in Peters thread (I took a look to see what all the fuss was about) as I have great respect for both you and Alan. I would like to suggest that after a good nights sleep you will feel better in the morning and will have retracted your request to cancel your membership.
The problem with the written word on forums and emails is interpretation as there is no intonation in what is said. We all interpret stuff differently we we read it.........and sometimes it gives us the bleeding hump!!!! C`mon Patrick..... put it behind you, stick around. Even if you just lie low for a bit....... Onward and upward matey
I agree with Peter, give it a few days Patrick and I'll probably piss you off even worse and then you would have forgotten all about this latest episode..........Jim
This is a modeling site, so the best way to expres yourself is building a model.
I propouse you a treatment....
Build, you and me, the same model!
You are an excellent modeler and an important part of this forum (like all the members), so forget the other comments and keep your mind on the modeling.
You want to talk...? Talk with me
Is not a competition, but certainly, will be a challenge...
If after this period you still thinking you want to go, I, personally, will write to Ian and John to delete your account.
As many others have said , I can only urge you to reconsider Patrick . Your input and contribution to the forum would be greatly missed , hopefully a difference of opinions wont mean the end of this .On a further note can i ask all members to learn something from this and other recent episodes and please try and avoid stirring up any further s**tstorms ! Any question such as " which is best? enamel or acrylic , brush or airbrush , Revell or Tamiya" etc. is like asking a room full of football fans which is the best team , everyone is very passionate about their own personal choice (hence the violence and fighting) and questioning which is best always results in heated arguments . Can we avoid any further "so and so VS so and so" type posts and respect the fact we all do things differently . As Si says at the end of the day its only plastic , its supposed to be an enjoyable hobby ?! heres hoping that you have a change of heart , cheers tony
Just back from a week away and I cannot say how surprised at finding this thread. I have not seen the 'offending' posts so cannot comment on them but one thing I know is that this forum is the friendliest on the web.
Yes I agree that this media can result in comments being taken out of context and with a harsher meaning than is intended by the poster. I myself, on a FB modelling page, found myself virtually being called a liar when I defended Vallejo Primer pointing out I had used it on over 25 models with success and explained how it should be used.... 'It always peels, letting it cured does not work - period' was the terse and very rude reply and, strangley I was the one told off because I had some offended someone by suggesting they used it wrongly !!!
Its a strange world at times...
Patrick, you are a valued member of this forum and I would hate to see you leave. Please stay and share your builds and experience here.
Can I say that despite one or two spats over the years this has remained by far and above the most friendly and supportive forum on the internet, particularly to newcomers and those returning to the hobby after prolonged periods of absence. I consider it an honour to be in a position to try to help keep it that way.
As he has already mentioned here I have a huge amount of respect for Laurie, who left us in not dissimilar circumstances and, after all the arguments that ensued, I have to admit to feeling a degree of relief when he did (Sorry Laurie, I have to be honest but also have to admit I was wrong!). However he did return and continues to be one of our most prolific and positive contributors, for that I applaud his courage for returning.
I can only ask that this particular thread remains supportive and positive of Patrick and give him time to reflect and consider his position. Memberships are not canceled lightly, particularly when a post count is high, so a period of calm is always better before taking such action.
for my tupance worth ,there are 3816 members on here and that is 3816 different viewpoints , I have not looked at the pages in question so im not going to judge either but 20-30 years ago there was no internet /facebook etc ,now the forums give us the freedom to talk and show our hobby to the world and each other .
I recently put a number of my models into a show and 1 "only" came 3rd I was a bit miffed about this and to be honest I took the hump and I soon realized that I should chill out and do better next time , there is always going to some one better than you in modelling but you learn from talking to each other and we are all the better for it . That is why I come onto this forum which to me is the best on the planet by far and the friendliest so come on guys pull together and happy building what ever you do
Thanks to all who took the time to be supportive & in so doing, knock some sense into me!
You're absolutely right, making such a decision based on anger or feeling hurt was a silly idea. I'm humble enough (I hope!) to retract my request & continue as a part of this great forum.
Whilst I hope my input might be helpful, the real benefit for me is getting help & inspiration from the excellent builds I see everyday.
Once again, my heartfelt thanks to the kindness you've all shown me.
