firing effect help

Can anyone help me with how to create this effect, cheers guys and gals.

Tricky one and why you don't see models with fire or smoke as it is difficult to do and to look believable.


All I can suggest is either using: paper to create the shape and then paint.


Us clear resin to create the effect and then use something like Tamiya clear for the orange glow and then add paint effects.

That would be neat if you can pull it off ........ There is white, black, yellow, orange and red going on in there....... and the glow on the ground to deal with. I wouldn't have a clue where to start Scott

At Telford last year I saw a dio in which there was a massive explosion, the bloke did it by using an led light and covering it with cotton wool, it won't look exactly like your pick but it's the closest I can think of doing it

would need to be something light in weight, cotton wool, filling, etc. Then sprayed with various orange / yellows, this link shows a burnt out tank with smoke, suspect made from expanding foam so theirs another option.

What about Ken's HMS Warspite dio Scott? He had a FW 190 with an exploding wing using LEDs - it was very effective as I recall.

I used expanding foam in a diorama for the Vietnam sig under Phantom menace worked a treat

Hmm seen painted cottonwood used to great effect but I also know it's a bugger to paint.


Expanding foam sets hard and makes great billowing smoke clouds and easier to paint.

I dont know what the stuff is called but my boss has some stuff in her xmas Dec's that looks like very fine fibre optics which can be scrunched up like cotton wool I can see that with leds creating that effect.

late in on this one Scott,


the lads have said some very good idea,s which ,I would of said,


make a shell out of clear resin to create the effect,the thinner the better,


and have a rod of clear so you can fix it to the barrel of the tank by ,and


also,to get the center part,


and you could use pulled apart cotton wool to the thinnest you can get and tint with inks,


or just try thinning the resin ?


maybe worth a try,
