Vulcan...airborne!

After last year's Yeovilton air day, commentary was that the Vulcan probably wouldn't fly again because of engine parts being in non existing supply...


Well it does and here's the evidence!

I'm the last person you'd think would know this, but if I'm right I think its the end of this year it stops flying.

I was at the Yeovil show last year and the announcements weren't great , I had the walk around tour and was told by the guide that this could be the last yast year she flew but I was told it was the life of the engines they were calling into doubt, they said that the engines had a thirty year lifespan and they were brand new in 2000 when she was fitted with them and were never used previously even though they were built in 85 ,


According to the guide they still have 15 years left in them

Yeah your right I'm seeing one of the Vulcans last flights in August, I absolutely can't wait.


I remember seeing it when I was taken to air shows as a child and mainly because it was so freeking loud. I had a big Vulcan airfix bought for me in the late 80's and found the very same model recently in my local shop, but didn't buy it.

There's just a menacing look about her...unfortunately, aged before her time.


Oh well...we will always have memories, whether it's years gone by, Falklands war or an air show.

The Trust states that the 2015 display season will be the last that the Vulcan is able to fly, due to withdrawal of support from "technical authorities" whom without, the aircraft is prohibited from flying, under Civil Aviation Authority regulations. The aircraft structure and systems are 10% beyond the flying hours of any other Vulcan, meaning identifying signs of fatigue and stress failure is becoming more difficult.
