The loss of a great man

Hi guys


I've had a few days to think about whether I wanted to post something on here or not and it still seems a bit weird doing it.


The main reason is because this forum has helped since the tragic loss of my father on Tuesday night, just during the quiet down times or when I've not been able to sleep.


So thanks to the creators of such a great and friendly forum and for all the guys who have been posting their incredible builds!


Dad was looking forward to seeing the Vulcan in Kent at the end of August as he loved this v, if anyone knows of the best Vulcan model on the market then please let me know, I know airfix do one but isn't that great.

Sorry to here about your loss Phil


Apart from airfix , Great Wall Hobbies do a 1/144 scale one and Lindbergh did one


The airfix one can come out looking very good , I've seen loads at shows and they look fantastic , I don't know how the GWH and Lindbergh kits are like but I know Lindbergh are pretty naff

Can't help with the Vulcan mate, you're right, the Airfix one can be a bit of a dog.

Sorry to hear about your loss phil , it takes some time to get over. I lost my dad five years ago on Friday . It will get better with time but were all here if you need to take your mind off it for a while. Ive read that the great wall vulcan is a lovely little kit , smaller than the airfix at 1/144 but better engineered and recessed panel lines too. Best wishes tony

Dads are quite something Phil. So many every day things remind me of mine and


that is from 25 years ago. I still think of him within the family at various ages.


One thing is eternal he always looked after me in all ways.


I just hope I came up to his expectations.


Strange when he died I felt guilty as if paralysed of emotion.


Then 6 months later taking the dogs for a walk on the beach


I just broke down and sobbed. That is what dads do for you.


Sure your dad Phil will be with you for ever. As things ease all the


memories flood back which are very enjoyable.

This sounds like a great way to honour his passing . Hopefully you find a nice model to build in his memory

My sympathies to you and your family Phil. I lost my father around this time last year and the forum helped me by distracting me and not letting me brood. Dad would have hated that and would be looking down rollicking me about getting on with stuff.


Leave the Lindberg (1/100 or 1/96) alone, it can be a faff with a bad fit. MPC (1/72) do one but again, it can be a faff-that is if you can get hold of one. Revell used to do a 1/96 one, but think they stopped production. For my money I would go for the Airfix at 1/72.

So sorry for your loss, lost my Dad in 95 but it still feels like yesterday sometimes, hope your Dad lived a long and happy life for the most part, something we all hope to achieve. But do carry on with your modeling and posting, your father would want nothing less......................Jim
