Is it right and ethical to post your own similar build on other people's build thread?

Simple question that should get a lively response......Tin hats on everyone!

I have done it. but only to show what I have done with mine that may help the OP.

Would never dream of just adding the model for the sake of 'Here's mine' Not done...nope.

I personally wouldn't if I wanted to give an idea I'd post a link so it's up to the posters to decide if they want to see it

Absolutely! If someone is asking a question, showing a completed example is a good way to illustrate techniques used in that build.

Especially now that a ' great build ' can't be awarded to such examples, as was the case previously.

Also, someone new might see the previous build & be interested in looking up the pertinent thread for ideas or inspiration.

        A picture is worth a 1000 words!

I see nothing wrong with it, it could possibly help some one to see different techniques applied

Excellent response boys, all civilized. It matters not to me which is right or wrong, but it should make for an interesting debate.

                  Now consider this.....

The original thread starter hasn't asked for help, then out of the blue, a picture turns up from another member and is awarded great build doodahs and nice comments about this build.

What might the original poster think, seeing his or her build taking second place, albeit for a brief spell?

Let's chew over this aspect of the question.....

For a start Ron, the inserted picture (s) can't be awarded a GB gong - that was changed by John or Ian.

As for the feelings of the OP, it's my opinion that they express their thoughts on pictures of other builds being shown - it's their thread!

That was changed, so Patrick is correct there. But with you regarding a piccie just turning up out of the blue, no need really.

I'm confused are we talking about complete builds or someone asking for help/tips ?

In a completed build no it's not but if people are asking for assistance then a visual is acceptable IMO

                            Context is important.

If someone has posed a question to which the answer is made a whole lot simpler by posting a picture, maybe to demonstrate 'this is how I did it', I think that's absolutely fine. The photo doesn't have to be of a completed build, I'm pretty sure I've posted pictures at various stages of builds to try and help people out.

It doesn't imply that my way is better than your way, just that you think it worked for you and might be an option for someone else. It's entirely up to them whether they take the advice or try something else!

                            Cheers

I didn't even know the gongs can't be awarded for inserted pictures.....Must pay more attention.

I agree if someone poses a question then yes, a picture is by far and away the best response.

I was just wondering if an unsolicited picture of a similar model just turning up willy nilly on that person's thread - be it the actual build or completed - is, in the opinion of my mates on here, O.K.?

                              Cheers,
