    has anyone seen?

has anyone seen the film Down Periscope?

its a comedy but i found it quite good! one Richard might like!

i would love to make a model of the sub used in it.

apperently it was the USS Pampanito (SS 383), a WWII submarine currently (2000) on display to the public at Pier 45 in San Francisco, California.

anyone know if you can get a model of this or one of its class? (World War II Balao class) As i cant seem to find one!

edit: lol i found one!!! http://www.badshipmodels.com/balao.html for about £75!!!!

edit: (seems like im answering my own post before anyone else gets chance here!!!

    found this one

but its a resin kit and i have never used resin before so dont know what its like!!!

i have also found that revell do the USS Lionfish which is the same class, they do it in 1/220 or 1/180 scale.

anyone thing you would be able to get the decals for the "stingray" out of the film? i have no idea where to look for extra decal kits.

    any help would be appriciated!

    Richard

I don't think I have seen this one. It might be interesting to see the shots of the sub but I am not sure if the Ameican humour is worth it!!

As for decals as specific as this, it would almost certainly be worth considering making your own with some decal paper on your computer and a bubble-jet printer.

Thanks for the pictures Richard. A superb example of a well weathered sub and a very interesting modelling subject.

The first one I went on was one on display in Charleston in about 1981-82. Very interesting but long before I could afford a camera.

The last one was U-535 in Liverpool. Equally interesting but now sadly not available to the public.

                          Howdy Guys,

This posting is mainly for nigel, but I invite anyone who is interested or just curious, to read this and follow the link.

Nigel, I see in your "signature" you are looking for a large scale seafury? or a car? Anyway, I am also a "papermodeler", one who builds 3d models out of paper. Models that you print off on your own printer, cut out and glue together. Some look like plastic models until you pick them up, thats how detailed they can be.

Anyway, back to the seafury, a Model designer friend of mine has a free download of a 1:48 scale British Seafury Paper cardmodel, below is a photo of the completed model:

If the image didnt work, dont worry you can see and download the model in .pdf format at this link:

He has several free downloads of his work availible on his site. If anyone is interested in card models, let me know and I can send you links to hundreds of freebies. Some are more realistic than others, but some are not.

Below is a photo of one card model I did, its a Cessna 170 Skyhawk made entirely of paper.

                          have good day,

                          Greg aka GW

photos of a cardmodel like the Hawker Sea Fury mentioned above
