Going to be taking some time away from modelling

I've had to make a decision, that is hard to make, but my health is slowly but surely getting the better of me, I've decided to take some time away from doing what I love doing, and that is modelling.

I have been building model kits since the age of 13, but at the age of 51, my body cannot or will not, let me enjoy the hobby I love most.

For a long time now, my wife has had to help me build my models, but the pain I get in my neck, is just too much to bare, my condition is slowly deteriorating, if I continue the way I have been, I know that I will only speed up the problem.

Sometimes it's always best to sit back and take stock of certain situations, that regrettably some of us find ourselves in, so for myself, I have decided to take some time away from the hobby.

So far I have been lucky with the problem I have, and I know that I have a wonderful wife, but I cannot continue to put her through endless sleepless nights, due to the pain I'm in.

So for the time being, I'm going to take some time out, and rest and....well I'm not sure, but I will still visit the forum, and follow your builds with interest

You have to do what you have to do, your health, wife and family come first, not bits of plastic-despite how much we like doing them. You rest, take it easy and do what you can when you can, if you cannot then so be it. Take care mate.

That's so sad, Tommy. But as Si points out, family and our own well being comes first by a mile.

You have a very precious commodity there...The wife. She sounds one hell of a lady.

You take care, rest up and don't loose touch with your mates on here.

All the best for the future.

Sorry to hear it has reached that point. It is one of the sad moments in life when our bodies force us to give up those things we enjoy.

Until a few years ago, my wife and I were keen gardeners, we had a large garden and grew a lot of our own fruit and veg. Sadly my wifes' problems with back, neck and shoulders meant that I had to take on an increasing amount of the work alone, to the point where a pleasurable pastime became a chore. When we relocated to Belgium 5 years ago we made the conscious decision to get a place with no garden. We still miss the garden but not having all the work has meant more time for other hobbies.

Keep in touch and continue to chip in when you can.

I'm very sorry to hear about your health problems Tommy it's almost like a cruel joke when something like this even stops you from doing something that you enjoy so much.

If there's anything you'd like to build yourself but can't, post it up & I'll build it on your behalf so it's like doing it yourself without the pain

The sad thing is that a lot of people take up modelling as a means of having something to do when health issues stop you doing the more physical things. It really is sad that this is being taken from you. We all wish you well though and hope you continue to join in on here and maybe get a bit of enjoyment out of that.

I know your feeling Tommy, I have DDD {degenerative disc disease} plus spinal artherosis {artheritus} very painful to sit for long periods or do anything else for that matter but I try to struggle through my chores. Went to several neuro-surgeons over the years and all said I am too far gone for surgery. I hate taking pain meds but sometimes the pain is so bad I must and it could effect any part of the body at any time depending on which nerve decides to get pinched, the neck can be the worst, have had several trips to hospital for morphene shots and introvienous drips. So hang in there buddy you're not alone................Jim

That's a nice offer. Maybe that would allow Tommy to paint bigger sections or such. Just reaffirms how great this forum is
