    LED lighting

We have numerous light bulbs with pins and things and not your ordinary light bulb.

Most of these are now obtainable in LED format. For instance a 16w halogen G4 (the one with the pins) is available in LED 1 to 5 watt (5watt about 50w ordinary old bulb).

Advantages you use a minute amount of electricity, instead of a red hot bulb. It is virtually (5w) skin temperature plus they are said to be 30,000 hours etc.

I use the halogen pin ones for lighting my shelves showing my models. In these LED formats they do the warm white (3000 K approx) which gives a slight yellow. For the models I wanted a daylight and a number of manufacturers produce the LED in daylight for (6000 to 7000K). just changed to these day light types and the transportation is just perfect.

I also have the same photo lights giving day light conditions.

In my previous life I was a buyer for 13 years for an electrical wholesaler, one thing I do know is the hours they give is to be taken with a pinch of salt, they couldn't possible test them for that amount of time, and you also have to weigh up the cost of them, it is a case of buy cheap buy twice with most of them, the more expensive ones, for example Megaman, they used to sell for £15-£20 each as a opposed to £1 got the halogen version, buy half a dozen of them an that works out at a lot of electricity to use before you even start making a saving.

That said we have LED GU10's in our kitchen and bathroom, not for the saving but because I prefer the light it renders compared to a halogen.

I went in to where I used to work the other day and they have now got some LED candles and GLS lamps in, my mate was going through them because although they said they was warm white not all of them was, but that goes back to the buy cheap buy twice.

One of the plus points on Amazon. You can get a good idea of how

good the bulbs are from the star system and reviews. Always look at the 4 and 3 star as being a good

norm. 1 star come up with stupid reviews " the bulb will not fit my light" .

Bought some long life the curly bulb type screw in fitting for the centre light which were daylight 6000k.

6 of them giving one spare. They all popped within the week. Company sent a new set a different type

and they are all still with me after 6 months. The old filament type were popping one a month plus they

      were the usual yellow light..

On the bulb life 30,000 hours equal 1250 days. I bet they tested some

I understand that after a certain date you wont be able to buy the halogen GU10s.

They will, but how many times are they turned on and off? No one can predict that, each time they start they degrade just a little bit.

We have some LED under cabinet lights in our kitchen, it's the 2nd lot from the same manufactur, they are half as bright as they were from new, had both sets less that 12 months, a good portion of that we didn't use them.

My eldest son used to work at the Jersey Power Station. He said an fluctuation would deal blows

to a good number of bulbs. Not sure on 12v as that is regulated by the power unit. I think.

On the testing I doubt they tested or month as they are relatively new. i shall test them for them.

I do not see any warranty on 30000 hours.
