    Photo Of The Week?

    Howdy Guys,

I have been sight seeing in the members galleries here. There are tons of great photos of completed models, works in progress, diaromas etc..etc..

I was curious about whether this site has the ability or option of posting a "Photo of the week" like the other forum I frequent www.cardmodels.net .

I think that it would be a nice addition to the forum, and it provides recognition to the members for their work. It also would act as an attention getter to viitors to the site.

I dont want to add a poll to this thread because I dont even know if this site has the option of providing such a feature yet. However, I would be willing to bet that if the site does have this option, it would be overwhelmingly welcomed.

Heck I would even volunteer my time/talents to manage it.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

    Have a good day,

    Greg aka GW

      Howdy RJ,

Well, as I said RJ, I am not even sure the site has the ability to provide this feature, I am sure it probably does, but I didnt want to create a poll and "incite" all the members if it couldn't be done. Some sites are different from others with different features for different levels of hosting. (if you pay more you get more).

If it could be done the photo could be a link to the gallery of the modeler whose work is featured in the "photo of the week".

Over at the other site I mentioned, they have started adding the previous "Photo of the week" (potw) to a "hall of fame gallery". Its just a little recognition of the modelers work.

The "POTW" wouldn't have to be of the best looking models, it could be any photo submitted, ie..... from a "build" thread or a "how to" thread.

I know that managing websites are alot of work which may be why we dont already have something like a "POTW".

      have a good day,

      Greg aka GW

Have you noticed that if you use this as your start page:

It automatically selects a new picture from the gallery every time?

Not a POTW I know but it does keep the gallery alive and always gives you a buzz when one of your own pictures is the selected file.

            Howdy Bunker,

It took me a minute to realize that is the link I use to get in here lol. But yes, I had noticed it changed photos.

If you would like to see what I am talking about, go to www.cardmodels.net . You will see the photo of the week and if you click on it, you will be redirected to the "hall of fame" gallery (although they just started it). My suggestion was to link the POTW to the gallery of the person whose photo was chosen as POTW.

Like I said, Its just a thought, something to mull over.

But instead of jumping the gun and initiating one, lets see how much input from the rest of the foprum we get.

            have a good day,

            Greg aka GW

ps. as of the time I am writing, North Korea has launched three missiles, two short range and the long range taepodong II, however it broke apart in flight apparently.

                Howdy John,

And btw, I wanted to congratulate you and your moderators/administrators on a great site. If I am not mistaken, the moderator of thew POTW is solely responsible for the decision as to which photo is used as the potw.

I may be wrong, so, I emailed Ashrunner, the potw moderator over at www.cardmodels.net and expect to hear from him hopefully this evening (US time). If I do, I will relay the info to you and while am at it, I will try to recruit him as a new member here. (I am like the ultimate double agent, I am promoting both this site over at the card site and the card site over here at this site lol trying to get duel citizenships for more ppl at both sites.)

Anyway, just as soon as I hear from him I will be able to answer your question with more certainty.

I had some ideas myself, such as having the members of the forum nominate photos by emailing their choice to the potw moderator and then having the moderator choose 3 to 5 and place them into a poll for vote by the membership as to which should be the potw. But, thats just one way, another way could be having the management (you, the moderators/admins) decided on the potw. Or anopther way would be to give sole decision to the administrator/moderator of the potw.

There are several ways to work it.

However, I would suggest here that the potw be linked to the potw members gallery although linking the potw to a "hall of fame" (a gallery of all potw's) would be fine too.

BUT..........I think that the membership should give some input into how they would like to do it should this feature "come to life" here.

So, how would you (the reader) want it done? Tell us with a reply to this thread.

Have a good evening, I will get the info to you asap John

                  Howdy Guys,

Ok, I sent John the info in the form of a priv. mess. so, with that said, I would like to point out an observation and at the same time, again promote the idea of a "POTW.

I have on several occassions during the last two weeks checked the number of people online here in the forum. I realize that I am in the US and alot of the members here are in the UK and therefore six hours ahead of my time zone, meaning they would not be on when I am on in the evenings especially. However, at the time of this writing, 8:45 pm (cst in USA,) 2:45 am in the UK, there is one member (myself) and 22 visitors.

I realize that some of these visitors are probably members, but I know not all of them are.

I majored in advertising in college and one term used in the business was "the hook". "The Hook" was something that got the attention of the prospective customer/client and in this case, prospective member. All forums for the most part look the same. Usually just threads and postings.

A large "POTW" in the top center of the "log in" page would most definitely catch the attention of visitors, it would in an instant, provide some insight into the skills of the people here, the subject matter, and since it is a weekly photo, it would show that the site is an active, growing site, one that is "inclusive" of its members.

Now in the few seconds that it takes the visitor to look over the photo, he/she may decide to see more by clicking on the photo which would take them to the featured modelers gallery. After looking at those, if the visitor is anything like me, they will want more...and then more. And if they are any type of modeler, they will join the forum to comment or ask a question. And thats when "the hook" is set.

We all know that once you post in this site, it becomes addictive lol....am I wrong? lol I thought not.

Anyway, I just wanted to share that observation with everyone, I really enjoy this forum and would like to be active in its growth.

                  Have a good day,

                  Greg aka GW
