Just an observation but I think we may now in danger of loosing the direction with this. Ron's original suggestion was for the picture to be ourfavourite not our best. If we all post pictures of our best then there will undoubtedly be those who feel that thier best isn't good enough and will be put off by some of the more experienced modellers. If we stay with our favourites then the standard of modelling is irrelevent, which is also why I think that a brief few words of why it is your favourite would add significantly to it. For instance your favourite model may be one you built while recovering from an illness or one you built by candlelight as a result of power cuts etc..etc.. the things you would not know by simply looking at the picture but what may make the model your favourite.
The trouble is by asking for input from everybody is that we end up with as many different opinions as we have members and it all seems to come to a halt because there is no agreement on what we want. I think we have more chance of success if someone simply starts a thread with a set of guidelines and see what happens and I wouldn't ask for input before starting it.
I'm sure we tend to spend more time talking in circles about something than we actually spend doing it. and I'm also sure the key to sucess is to keep it simple.
As I said just an observation.
How about this as an example?
Display of a Tamiya 1/12th Suzuki RG500 as riden by Barry Sheene and a Yamaha YZR 500 as riden by Kenny Roberts. Built at the time when Roberts and Sheene were battling it out on the track in 1977 on my first ever trip to sea as a cadet. The captain liked it so much he wanted to buy it off me but I wouldn't sell it. The base is a polished pilot ladder step stained with Soy Sauce.
So having read all the comments and suggestions, how about this for the final thingy. Bearing in mind my initial idea was for a simple gallery, here's the simple 'Rules'.
A member may post only four pictures of his or her own favourite builds.
The photo must not have been altered (Photoshop etc.)
Only scale, kit make and name of original build or thread title is to be typed. No other wording please.
I see this thread as being straight forward and totally devoid of any discussion or extra comments. Let's just enjoy the pictures. If anyone should wish to ask questions or to view the thread the picture came from, they can contact the builder via a P.M. or find the relevant thread themselves.
Due to the nature of this proposed thread, and as a bit of a bonus, it would be really nice to see some of the 'old' builds resurrected too.
Come Dec.1, it only seems right and proper for the moderators to start the thread off, and not me.
So, if the mods. are in agreement with the above can they give their blessing below? Then we can all sit back and wait for some excellent images to be presented ......
Well I can't enter this one then. As I don't have a photo studio costing £1000s all my pics get some degree of " enhancement " if only to improve the exposure etc
I think it is as simple as take the photo. Load it to the computer, Photobucket, whatever. Insert in the thread.
I think Spanner was saying not to use filters and such. Just a simple photo, whether it be taken with your phone, iPad, Canon SuperWhammy, whatever. just no manipulation via Photoshop, or whatever.
Well it can be hard if rules are imposed about how the photos are taken!
I don't use Photoshop, but I do, as I've already said, alter the image slightly to compensate for the lack of expensive camera equipment. I'm on a budget so my £10 point & shoot camera doesn't always give the best quality as dearer ones.
