Clock Doing My Head In!

I am trying to balance and get the beat right on my vintage large mantel clock. I have tried the penny method and it ticks and the pendulum swings then stops, normally when I turn my back lol.


By the way it does run, just was moved. I will get it to run!

Got it all sorted, a couple of pennies under the feet and some slight adjustments and she is ticking away and keeping good time.


This clock dates from around the 1920's or earlier.

Nice yes twenties clock of a time when things were built to a high quality not like now when things are built to last till the next model comes then you have to buy again will we ever learn

Nice Si....... I have a 1920s GWR clocking in clock, with a long pendulum that keeps perfect time in my hallway......... I used to have it in my bedroom.I found the slow tick very soothing. Now I'm married and `er indoors hates it so it's consigned to the hall

Just found some info from the National Association of clock and watch collectors, according to them the patent numbers show it is from 1913/14.


I totally agree Roger, over 100 years old and it is still ticking and gonging away. Quality nowadays just doesn't come anywhere close...as for learning, cash comes first I'm afraid.

What is it with women and lovely crafted, quality items...they just don't get it, my missus is the same. "I don't get clocks..." with a face on.


Sounds like you have a beauty, I love to hear mine tick, so quiet compared to the more modern electric jobbies.

Yes, it is German. The makers stamp is LFS: Lorenz Furtwangler & Sohne, they stopped manufacturing in 1929. The D.R.G.M number is more a copyright number, but records for those are all destroyed, it stands for the German Empire something, something, and was dropped altogether after 1945.

A very well crafted clock indeed Si I just googled DRGM, it means something along the lines of 'Registered Design of the German Reich'
