Gadgets do help, not sure about all the gadgets but being in the computer World I do have my fair share of gadgets. Smart phones - very useful if you have the right apps, for example, last time I went to the US I had to change at Newark, the problem was they changed my gate on my way there, but no problem, tripit had updated that to my phone - no looking through the departure boards, new gate there on my phone. Oh, I can check in with phone, use it as a satnav in a rental car, get emails etc etc. A watch though, I have my doubts, mine tells the time - it has the date too but I never check that.

Now my wife on the other hand has a kindle fire, samsung tablet and touch screen laptop to go with her smart phone. She wants to swap that for an iPhone, fair enough, but she also wants to replace her old iPod and get an iPad, no idea why she wants either of them, she even broke into her money tub the other day with a plan to buy a new iPhone - glumness all round when while a decent sum, it wasn't close enough to buy either the phone or ipad.

Never - it's the power of marketing.

Alan, I have a mobile phone, I've had it donkeys years. It sends and receives calls, full stop. That's all I want - when I remember to switch it on of course!

It's a pay as you go. I put £10 in it 12 months ago and last week I asked my wife how do I find out how much is left on it. "7 8 9." came the reply. I pressed the buttons. A sweet voiced young thing told me "You have £7.82 left."......not bad for 12 months use!!

On the other side of the coin, my good mate showed me his watch he got for Christmas. He plays golf (a good walk spoilt in my opinion) and this thing has a built in satnav loaded with all U.K.golf courses. He just presses a button and the watch shows him which hole he's on and how far his next shot needs to be. The world has gone nuts....

Head back down in the sand I go....
I'm there with you Ron. I have an old Sony Ericsson somewhere? Most of the time I'm not too sure where it is, and when I do mostly the battery is flat...... 789 you say? When I find it I'll give it a go
