    Fed up

well friends you'll be my sanity (hopefully) for the next few weeks why? Somehow I have managed to tear my quadricep in my left leg only treatment is keeping leg straight and do as little bending as so might find it difficult to model from my bed or couch gutted.

I do most of my modeling from my couch (I have a great missus)(in fact if my injuries were bad enough I know she would even fetch my modeling utensils for me) relax and enjoy being pampered.

I feel your pain Jim. Over the last two years, I have torn my ligaments in my right knee four times doing severe damage to my cartilage. According the 'health professionals' this is due to arthritis in my knee. Am I a long distance runner? Tour De France cyclist? Jogger? Weight lifter? No, the first time it happened I was getting off the toilet, the other times getting up from a settee. Although an MRI Scan identified the damage to my knee, I do not 'qualify' for treatment so I now spend a lot of time with a walking stick or crutches on a bad day and I am getting serious Mobility Scooter envy......... In fact, on a recent trip to a shopping centre in Milton Keynes, I ended up getting a scooter from the reception desk as there was no way I could have walked around it.

Take the medical advice and don't do anything silly or it will just last longer. I know how frustrating it is and I expect mine to go again soon. Just rest up but get it going again as soon as you can when given the all clear. If not offered ask for Phsyio, they are the only people who have done anything for me. I am sure you will find something to do in the mean time.

Just hang in there mate, it won't be forever but I bet it is painful.

Only 40 pairs, I have 104 cannons on my Soliel build (tbh I'm only building it with one side showing ) but still building all 104, just cause I can see other uses for them.

I had both knees totally replaced (the rubbing parts sawn off and replaced with plastic or something) in 2010 and 2011. Perfect results, both knees. Perfect mobility, range of movement and no pain at all. I got the impression that the op. won't be offered if you are too young, say below 75 or so, unless the problem is really bad. This seems to apply to most major operations. I think the reason is that they could go wrong and its better to wait until the relief to be gained from the op. is as beneficial as the continuing disability is bad, so that the two balance, more or less. In other words, it would be silly to have a major op. just to cure a twinge.

Another factor with joint replacement is that they last for up to 15 years, and although a second replacement can be done, again it would be silly for a 40-year-old to have the first op. and face another one at 55 and then another at 70. I was walking on crutches an hour after each op. If you think about it, the replaced knee is now perfect and can therefore take the body weight immediately. The only reason for crutches is that the leg muscles need time to recover (about 6 week until normal use is regained). The knee op takes between 45 minutes and 1 1/4 hour.

Hip replacements are very successful (my wife had one about 10 years ago, also very successful), with knees just behind.

If I could have my life over again I would be an orthopaedic surgeon (or a world-famous opera singer).
