Polux you are a great modeller and i very much like watching your builds please carry on , i spend a small fortune on subject books along with the kits and all the "extras" i love building models at all different prices and get the satisfaction of finishing them to a standard that i hope is improving and like to post them on here , the only person i "worry" about is the wife finding out what it costs but it keeps me happy and thats all that matters .

      There I said it

( don't ban me for getting annoyed )
All I did was write to the effect that I couldn't afford to spend that amount on kits. FACT!

What others spend on kits is of no concern or interest to me whatsoever. It's a shame that what I thought were an innocent few words has caused some heated posts.

I would readily accept being told to get stuffed, along with my views and not being worthy of an account - as long as there were grounds for such a drastic statement.

Sorry this is dragging on Polux, I'm sure you want to resume your build as much as I want to see it progress - but I have to defend myself, when needs arise.

Which is perfectly reasonable Ron. As I said, I think there's been a bit of a misunderstanding.

As it happens I was recently looking at a rather nice kit of Donald Campbell's Bluebird K7, a boat with which I've always had a bit of a fascination, ever since I first saw the film of the fatal crash on Coniston Water. Much as I'd love to make it, despite the lack of wings (though the last version did have a vertical fin) I just couldn't justify the price, and I only build a very few models each year.

Everyone models to a budget, some are just larger than others. Making good models has nothing to do with the spondulics disbursed

        Cheers

Perhaps it's time to lock this thread down as it appears some stuff is being said without the full facts being known.

I'm sure that had Robert known what's behind it, he wouldn't have been so quick to pass comment.

We've all agreed that money spent is a personal preference & that Polux should reopen his thread.

          Surely that's enough?

Hehe look at me being all reasonable for a change :P

For me,it's a labour of love. If it's a subject I'm passionate about, I can warrant the extra expense. For example, a 1.200 hms hood with all the trimmings would cripple my bank account but 1, my gramps served on her,,,,2 it would take me over a year to build so it evens out the cost and 3,,,,,it's my model, not anyone elses

I think this is a passionate hobby and people quickly jump to the defence of a perceived attack on one of their friends without being fully aware of the facts, hoping we can all chill and calm down now

Oops I apologise if I stood on any toes ( apologies Ron.. I just thought someone not wanting to build a kit via others views was wrong ( my fault and I never wanted to upset anyone's saddle so to speak.

I'll,just potter off and get back to me table ( head hung in shame )

                Regards

I too spend a fortune on kits...buy one, glue, paint...mess it up...bin...buy another and repeat...

The never ending of cycle of kits that keep my bin well and truly fed.

                    Good mooring.

                    Is a new day...today....

Anyway, I know a "new day" it hasn't to become an excuse for my yesterday post. I'm sure it wasn't correctly at all

I was disappointed for things in and some ones out of this forum.

Certainly today I hate myself.....so the best way I have to return at the, day by day, is search a model and some glue. I'm sure I have both somewhere in my work bench

My most sincer apologies to all, and thank you to all for all kind of comments and patience.

Maybe as Patrick pointed, is better to close the thread....

                    Regards

Polux mate, I hope you carry on with your state of Maine thread, I love watching you build anything, but especially the buildings you have been doing.

As regards to cost, I don't think it matters, as long as we are happy. I'll be paying out about a grand over the couple of years of my millennium falcon build!!!!! :P

                      Cheers, Andrew

See, this is what happens when the clocks go forward!

Sometimes the written word is interpreted different to that which is spoken.

To those offering their apologies.....There is certainly no need for anyone to apologise to anyone, as there is nothing to apologise to anyone for. Make sense of that!....

Polux, we all want you back working on your excellent build.

Lady and Gentlemen, it doesn't have to, but can I suggest this post of mine ends this thread, so we can all resume normal service?

                        Cheers,

                        Ron

Never a more touchy subject than what other people think.

Some kits are cheap and look good some are expensive and look good.

What a person spends on THEIR hobby is THEIR problem.

Is there any difference between one person that spends only £20 a kit, but buys ten of them or one that spends £200 on a kit but only buys the one.

Pollux. Get on with the build.

Everybody else keep calm and build something. Regardless of the price.

                          To quote the Dali lama;

People where born to be loved and things are made to be used.

It is no wonder the world is the way it is now that things are being loved and people are being used.
