    Thinning down built models....

in advance of moving house I want to thin down the built models that I take with me.

    All 1/32 WW2 aircraft.

I don't really want to throw them away and I have emailed the Operation Fuller Association to see if they want my Swordfish but i have not had a reply yet.

Are there any ideas of what to do with others?

I am thinking of taking with me only about 4 or 5 models leaving me with a about a dozen to 14 models to dispose of.

I rather like the idea of a pretty clean slate to start from.

It's a problem I have had. I used to rotate models between display and the loft, but ended up with too many to continue the practice. I had quite a lot of models in the loft, never to be seen again. In the end I bit the bullet, retrieved a few useful parts (pilot figures, some clear parts etc) and threw the rest away. It wasn't easy, it must have been a few hundred quids worth of kits, but now I can start the whole process again, from scratch!

    Cheers

To me, the fun of modelling is the building and painting. When I run out of display space its bin time.

Give them away to children. They love to play with them. Of course they get destroyed pretty fast but they've had fun playing with them. Just make sure the model is age appropriate so the models won't hurt the child (choking from small parts) I've become the model guy of my neighborhood. Kids come over quite often to talk about models and I let them use my old paint and brushes to personalize their models. They have a blast. Give it a try you won't be disappointed.

I've done that with a few. You're right, they don't last long but it's fun whilst they do

Mine regularly go in the spares drawer or just get binned, once built I have no interest in them (although I must admit I've sold a few)

Given the quality of your builds Barry, there's no doubt you'd get buyers for them on ebay. One problem is you'd have to be prepared to find a way to package them unless you sold them 'collect only'.

Another problem of course is finding room for all the new kits you buy from the proceeds. But hey!! You've just made some space available - right?

I would not go the eBay route I would rather burn kits than sell them on eBay, I put 2 of my 1/6 motorcycle kits on there and the best I got was 3.79 the I think the spare parts in the spares drawer would be worth more to me.

I would try EBay nothing to loose even if you only get a couple of quid it's better than nothing and the bin.

                        Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I may do a bit of what everyone suggests but I am offering them to a school as they may be of use when they teach about WW2. See what happens....
