There are only so many hours in a day, I wanted to get the attachments and gallery fixed before anything else, I could have kept the board closed for the past couple of days until everything was sorted but I thought it best to open it up.

As has been pointed out brtimodeller uses the same software and I don't see everyone there saying it's hard to use, they have a better new posts thing which is very similar to the old one, I'm looking in to that.

I am not saying this due to being admin. but because it is my personal opinion.
I like this new version and after the initial shock it is very quick to get used to. And I am a person that has a phobia for change and IT things!!

I find that it loads much faster and the overall structure is good. Different but good. Buttons are in different places, only a few are missing and as for the recent posts 'issues' I have yet to find any real problem now I know where it is.
John is doing a fantastic job sorting this out and keeping it online at the same time.

I am also a little bit sad that so many have started to come with an attitude of nope dont like it. Come on guys and dolls, give it time and let the ripples die down. Considering the price that you all pay to be a member here I think you are being a bit rude to put it bluntly.

The many of you ( I know who you are), that frequent Brit moddeler can stop whining, it is the same soft ware they use.

A new format does take some getting used to and it wont be long before it settles in and we find out where everything is...

The new forum looks clean and modern.

Like any change it will take a little while l to get used to the changes and slightly different ways to do things.

I certainly wasn't expressing anything other than a personal opinion, I have found the change more tricky than I expected. I do appreciate the hard work being done to provide the forum for all of us who use it, and my inability to come quickly to terms with the new look is just that, my inability.

My comment was not intended in any way as a criticism of the new format, just an expression of my own shortcomings   If there was any misunderstanding, an unfortunate inevitability when operating in the non-face to face realm of cyberspace, I apologise for it.

My relatively light use of the forum at present is due to other commitments, not any frustration I might be enduring trying to find things :/

            Cheers

            Steve

First of all Ian, I don't think anyone who's been a member of this forum for a while is in any doubt of the hard work & time that John (and the moderators) put in to keep this forum running.

I'm sure that there's a hell of a lot that goes on behind the scenes that us users never know about - system crashes, glitches etc. But we're all extremely grateful to have this site, which for my money beats the others.

But I take umbrage with your comment about 'whining' & feel that's rather insulting. There was plenty of resistance to the last forum change, but most people learned to embrace it.

Personally, I feel this change is too much of a quantum leap for many.  The difference is massive and people are quite naturally finding it hard to adjust. It isn't anything like the format of Britmodeller, so experience of that forum is no help at all.

I can find my way around the forum quite happily, but if I could choose between the old & the new? I'd pick the old for it's user friendliness.

Still, it could be worse - at least it's not Armorama!

I've created a new new posts link on the menu, top left, under browse, you can create your own with what ever filter options you want, and save it as default.

I think what the problem was that it searched for content only and not content and comments, but it does now, hopefully that will make things easier.

OK. I jumped the gun. I didn't realize that the changeover would take stages (and didn't think that a forum could possibly be changed in that way) and thought the chaos I was met with was almost the complete job. It was quite a shock. I have now done a tour and the basic shape of the old site has been preserved. I will get used to what changes there are. I do agree that John works 30 hours a day on this site and his business and I am very grateful for that.

I've had a word with Mike at Britmodeller, they are using v3 of the software and that is why their new posts looks like it does, they will be moving to v4 soon (same as this) he's give some ideas on how to change the look of it so it's a lot cleaner.

The posts have just been re-indexed again so hopefully the find new posts should work better

Did you save it after you made the changes and make it default?

I've just found this video, some of it has to do with admin settings but a lot is to do with the activity stream, and it's not that bad once you have a play with it.
