    Introducing myselves

    Hello everybody!

I discovered this forum by Gregg (geedubbya). He had a note over at cardmodels.

I'm 43 years old, married 3 kids. For a living I am an electrotechnichian (was that right spelled?) working for ISS inustri maintenance.I'm working around the clock so I'm blessed with a lot of time at work to do some cardmodelling

I have been doing cardmodels since xmas 2005, so I'm still a novice on that subject.I did plastic models when I was a kid as everybody else, and now I'm back in the modelling business....I only do cardmodells since It's a bigger challenge than plastic, since you have to "make" all the parts, and if anything goes wrong, you can just print out a new part and do it all over, and my builds lasts for months.....maybe I'm slow

I have only done 3 models so far....you can see pictures in my gallery.

Right now I have 2 models in the workshop.A Horch in 1:25 and a Kübelwagen in 1:16.

My other interests are fishing for trout and salmon, flytying, flightsimming, and skiing.

I live in the western part of Norway, where we have a lot of rivers and lakes right in our back yard

    Howdy Johnny,

Welcome to he forum, we are glad you found us. Now you too can share the best of both worlds lol. Actually you will see alot of familiar names over here from the cardmodel site. Mine is one of them, but there are several members I am sure you will recognize.

Please be sure and post some of your photos in the galleries, simply click the word "gallery" up top and then click upload on the next page, you will decide the catagory after inserting the pictures file address in your computer along with some other info, then click "ok" at the bottom and it will do the rest.

We hope to see many postings by you in the future and I am sure these guys and gals here will be eager to see your work and to speak with you.

Again welcome to the forum and have a nice day,

    Greg aka GEEDUBBYA (GW)

It's a papermodel from the polish publisher Modelik.

              And some outdoor shots

The first is of an eagle that was soaring over me when I was up in the mountains fishing.

And here is one of me with a trout I cought up in the mountains. It was 1060g

That Kubelwagon is superb. I never realised just how realistic a card model could get.

As for the scenery shots, it doesn't get much better than that!!

If there are any interest I can post some kind of construction report of my build of the Kübelwagen in the card Models forum.

To be honest I have never paid a great deal of attention to paper or card models, probably due to not knowing a great deal about them.

The more I think about it though the more I find myself asking "I wonder how they do that", mainly as regards the most basic of actions. Such as, do you score the card on the outside or inside? If the outside do you not get a white line generated where the card has been scored? How do you generate complex curves?

I certainly think a very basic card modelling tutorial would be quite interesting and even if I didn't built a card model I am sure the techniques would still be usefull to know for when I use card as a detailing medium on other models.

Same as me....papermodels are totally unknown here in Norway, so I stumbled across them ny accident, you might say

There was an ad for a free PiperCub over at the Flightsimsite called Avsim.

I downloaded it and got hooked.....

As for the scoring issue I use a large needle with a butt tip that I have put into a handle, and it dont damage the paper in anyway, so the lines remains black.I always score on the outside. The point is to make a kind of weakness in the paper so it's easier to fold. There are a lot of scoring "tools" you can use.I beleave every modeller makes his own.Often used are empty ball pens.

And due to the fact that there are more papermodels to choose from than plastic models, the amount of available models is huge. The price is also very nice.Typical from 5-15 euros each. And if you dont want to cut from the book...a scanner and a printer is all you need. The detal level can be very high, depending on the models of course.Models comes in different skill scales from very easy to the very hard ones.

                            Check this site

                            And see for yourselves

I have only built 5 models so far, so I'm absolutely no expert on the issue

I have built a Cessna 172,PiperCub, The Schwimmwagen,Ford GPA Jeep and the Gaz 67b.

I think why I find papermodels so facinating is that you are actually "building" the model, not just glue it together. You have to make every single part, so the feeling of construction is very present.
