    My new pipe

    Hi Friends.

I've smoked a pipe for a long time and decided to buy a new one.

This is a beast of a pipe and I'm enjoying breaking it in.

The last pic shows my old pipe.

Not for everyone I know, but I thought I would share some pics of it with you

OK, I'm not a smoker (these days) but imagine a pipe is like a trusted friend - so why ditch him in favour of a newer model ?

The main reason I bought a new pipe is to try different tobacco's.

I have a few pipes And when I find a tobacco I like, I just stick to that one tobacco( in each pipe).

So I won't be ditching my old pipe.

I hope this explains it a bit.

Does this mean you are going to end up with loads of new pipes it's a nice new pipe though

          No.

Once I find a tobacco I really like I will stick to that.

I will be trying a good few in my new pipe before sticking to my favourite.

I can't imagine that new one laying well in the hand, but it won't be tipping over when you put it down...

haven't had a pipe tobacco in jonks I used to enjoy a stop of Clan. Even swmbo said she liked the smell...hmm, wonder where they are these days.

hope you enjoy the new pipe Ralph.

Oh my, now you're taking me back...

That is a beautiful pipe, there's no way on earth that this pipe will disappoint you! I had one similar, in another life, and it was exclusively an Amphora (red) and Gold Block pipe. A good pipe will eventually need to be retired, but that one has some real legs!

Almost made me want to fill and tamp a bowl again, enjoy it

                  Thanks Ian.

This pipe sits nicely in the hand and I do like the feel of it.

I used to smoke Clan in my old Falcon pipe.

                      Thanks Monica.

There are many theories of breaking in a pipe.

But my way is to fill the bowl with tobacco and start smoking it.

The whole idea is to create a layer of carbon in the bowl, and depending on how much it is smoked can take a good few months.

Once there is a layer of carbon the pipe will smoke much better. It is then just a matter of keeping the carbon in control by reaming using a knife.

So in answer to your question a pipe is ready to start smoking as soon as you get it.

Must admit, although I gave up smoking 10 years ago now, I do miss a pipe and a cigar.  Never missed a cigarette though.  My dad smoked a pipe all his life, St Bruno tobacco, would not entertain anything else.

My Dad smoked a pipe and I can alway's  remember  pestering him to let me have a go.

He kept telling me I wouldn't like it and it would make me sick, until one day he thought it would be a good idea to let me smoke it so it would put me off wanting to smoke and for me to stop pestering him.

So there I was sat on the settee with a pipeful of tobacco(Condor) and a box of matches and off I went.

I must admit I loved it and smoked the whole bowlful Going through several matches to keep it lit.

I can always remember my Dad going mad at me for slobbing into his pipe.

                            His plan backfired .

I was only 9 when I smoked it.

Nice pipe ralph  , the smell of pipe tobacco takes me back to when i was a kid in the working mens club with my grandparents, there was a chap who used to smoke a pipe and he used Players whisky ready rubbed . The whole lounge would fill with the lovely smell of this , it smelt like chocolate ! Enjoy your new one , cheers tony
