Hello my name is Thomas and im new to the forum. Im about to embark on the wonderfull pass time of creating scalemodels but im new to it and wanted to ask fore some advice first.

Im going to be making car models and motorcycle models and i was wondering what sort of tools i would need fore the job? Im thinking an airbrush fore the large parts and a brush fore the small parts but what about cutting tools and sanding tools and what to use to remove that last bit of the sprue tree after you remove it?Hope some of you guys can help me with the esentials tools fore model building. Thanks in advance Thomas_A

Hi Thomas, welcome aboard. For a list of tools and a whole stack of other useful advice, have a look at this thread:

Started about 9 months ago Thomas. I trolled all the Model places to look at what was available. That gives you a good idea of what you want what you actually need & what would be good to have. In the end you have to decide on that.

Go & look at Flory Models. - Flory models Home There are a lot of tutorials which will give you a grounding in all the basics. Nothing is written in stone adapt as I have to your own ideas. Costs about £3 a month but really well worth it. He takes you in some tutorials all the way through creating a model all basic on the bench stuff.

Best go & have a look at John's Shop. Click on shop at the top of this forums page. Loads of really good stuff. If you have the lolly buy it all John will be delighted.

Cheque book & cards to the fore. But initially it costs but it lasts a long time both the tools & the interest in modeling.

I would say to get you started a pair of sprue cutters, a knife with some quality blades 10,10A & 11 and some form of sanding, sticks or paper that should get you going and as you progress buy the tools that you need for the task.

Craft knife, tweezers, pin-vice + drills, sanding sponges, sprue cutters, flat nosed pliers, blu-tac and masking tape

Could probably complete 90% of kits with that lot
