Rick's build plan dream sheet for the year ahead

Like many of us, I have a few ideas rattling around my mind that I have wanted to realise in model form for a while, some more recent though. I'd like to share my dreamsheet of models I want to build in 2017 with you and the reasons why.

1/48 Phantom - 1435 Flt RAF Mount Pleasant. I was given a postcard with a photo of an air defence grey Phantom sporting these colours and just thought it looked good and a little out of the ordinary.

A 1/48 helicopter - Sea King HAR3, D flt 202 sqn RAF Lossiemouth, Wessex or CH-34. The Sea King was a type I spent three years cursing, I mean working on. The Wessex has been in the stash for years and the CH-34 is another of those kits not seen often. I just fancy building a helicopter in this scale.

A Tornado GR1/4 in 1/48 or maybe 1/32; 12 or 617 Sqn RAF Lossiemouth. After 40 years of flight it is about time I built one of these heaps of sh*t. These noisy gits would deafen you as they took off in waves at Lossiemouth and the jockeys had the nerve to wave at you as they taxied past after landing.

1/72 Harrier GR3 - engine change, in the field or in the hangar. After the fun I had building a Lightning with a resin engine kit from CMK I had to get their Harrier engine set and the new tool Airfix offering and have a go. This could go in my hangar setting or a bespoke field diorama to include the Oxford Die Cast TACR fire engine I recently bought; I also have a load of 4 tonners with GS and bowser bodies that would look good alongside it.

1/72 F-102 Delta Dart. I have the Meng kit, nuff said.

1/35 Airborne Jeep and gun with figures; a tricky one for me as this is not my normal thing, especially figures...and painting those Denison smocks! I've had a life long interest in the Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces due to my father being in the regiment, their exploits are legendary and probably none more so than at Arnhem.

There are plenty more where these come from but this is probably a realistic target for a year's build for me. I cant wait to start!
On the bench: Airfix 1/48 Sea King HC4, Revell 1/24 Trabant.
Coming soon: Airfix 1/72 Phantom FGR2.
Just finished: Airfix 1/48 Stuka & Airfix 1/72 Sea King HC4.

Very good. It would be nice to have a plan, but I doubt I would stick to it. For me, just one stands out, that would be a nmf F104. Although a 1:48 Sea king would be nice as well.

Is that the museum in the south of Germany? We drove past it on the way home from Crailsheim a few years back.

Yep thats the one I plan to to do the sst area along with a buran and any other bits that take my fancy to do the whole area would need a floor space of a small hanger unfortuately so will have to be selective my area will be 5ft x 4ft in size which should be large enough to do what I want

These are the candidates for next year. I have a choice to make with the helicopters and Tornadoes though as I cant do them all.

I should clarify that I would build either of the Tonka's as a GR1/4.

I would do the jeep but I do have a big interest as I amĀ from the village where they were based before Arnhem so school taught us a lot about them and we met the veterans.

There was a feature in Airfix Model World recently that used this kit for conversion to GR4A so it is possible with a few minor tweaks.
