    IPMS

    Hi all

I have been thinking about joining a club so I can get out of the house and have something for myself away from work. I used to play rugby but that became all consuming and my recovery was getting longer. I dont have that kind of time now and I would rather follow my sons around now as they take steps into the sport. I have found that there is an IPMS Club nearby (Salisbury) so I think that would be a good opportunity to have an evening out of the house with like minded people.

What happens on a club night and does an IPMS membership offer what I need?

    Thanks for the advice.

I joined my local club (Southend) last year. There's a competition every month to which most members take a model or Two.No prizes, but a chance to talk about each other's work and pic up tips.

I guess that depends on what you are expecting....

I have not been able to find an IPMS club close to me in Crawley, West Sussex and the nearest is down in Brighton (Hove). Logistically a nightmare after getting back from London. The closest club that I found was a non affiliated club in Horsham that do a mixed bag of hobbies which include models. It's just nice to sit around talking "shop", whilst "working" on a kit or showing your latest creation. A sharing of knowledge...

There seems to be a black hole down south with regards to clubs, almost a dirty word. The closest local "club" is a war gaming club, which is great for the Warhammer croud (I have 40K Eldars"), but it does not cater for the "static" modelers.

All clubs are different, whether IPMS affiliates or not. Any club, of any type, essentially reflects the membership; as a fellow ex-Rugby player I have had very different experiences at different clubs over the years.

I would suggest going along to your local, Salisbury, club and seeing how you get on. Obviously I don't know that club, maybe another member here can give you more specific information, but you will hopefully receive a warm and encouraging welcome. In general terms it should meet your requirement for an evening out of the house with like minded people at the very least.

        Cheers
