My parents had a caravan at Lowther Caravan Park which was a particularly nice spot.

I always prefered the top end of the Lakes at it was that bit less crowded than the southern end.

I haven't been for a long time though, I must get back up there again one day, prefferably on the bike.

We achieved amazing long distance runs on those tiny machines,I also had 'seven' examples of a three wheel 49cc machine called the BSA Aerial 3,the machine used to lean about the fixed chassis, had a carrier front and back aimed at shopping trips,my examples ranged from one won by a vicar in a washing machine competition,'Triologically clean' was his winning entry, that cost me £100 brand new as he did not want it,another I purchased for its registration 'EF.2' which apparently was once owned by a Birmingham garage owner who kept his cherished registrations on mopeds ! one more came from a scrapyard and two more out of the local paper,I gave one to the local vehicle museum and sold the rest for a tidy profit.

Once tuned up they used to shift a bit,but the brakes were a joke.

All the brakes on these things were a joke. I've known better stopping distances on the average container ship!

I think the lakes in general is a beautifull part of the world and I should spend a bit more time up there. Kendal is not much more than an hour away for me so there is no excuse.

The trouble is nowadays I just want to be at home but I am missing out on too much. You are right I should take a boat with me and try some differrent waters.

i went to school in keswick so was totally spoilt growing up ! - there are some good waters to sail on, i have family also near arnside so also know kendal fairly well, one thing i would say is they are short of good model shops, when growing up i had to go from a village east of penrith to the far side of carlisle to get modelling goods !

classic models in carlisle, tiny little shop but a mecca to a starry eyed young boy in the seventies !
