    PAW Diesel price

Can anyone tell me what a PAW 40 or 50 sized engine would have cost new... US or Pound. Are they still being sold? If so where?

I have a chance to buy 2 from a fellow flyer here in the US.. I was impressed by how quiet a small PAW engine was and have been thinking of it as a way to avoid all the noise issues at my current field.

What's best liquid to loose them up when they have been sitting for a few years. Straight kerosine, transmission oil or ?

    Thanks for the help!!

    Hi Scott,

Yes PAW Diesels are lovely engines, I still have 2 PAW .19's which I have owned now for over 20 years and they still run like a dream. Try some light Machine oil first to loosen them up a bit (Like sewing machine Oil or 3 in 1 Oil if you can get it out there, it is the same stuff)

The engines are certainly still available and the manufacturers website is here: http://www.eifflaender.com/

You could try asking them for their prices as they will give you a quote, you can order direct from them too...I have had excellent service dealing with this company direct.

You can also find a guide to prices on www.justengines.co.uk ..click on the catalogue link and you will see the PAW link there.

    Regards........Mark.

Those PAW's last for ages,Gig Eiflander passed away recently but his son has taken the business over,I have had dealings with PAW for more years than I can remember, they even fully overhauled my very first engine,a ED Competition Special that my father had given me,Gig wanted to buy it,but no way it has too much sentimental attachment.

You cannot go wrong buying PAW,they are family established and give a service second to non, also probably the only manufacturer of model diesels these days ?

In answer to Barry's post above,

Yes PAW also serviced my first engine too, I had an unfortunate incident where the engine fell out of my pocket on the way home from the model shop, having just bought an engine mount for it...I was driving home on my motorbike, it fell out of my coat pocket as I went along the road and the car behind me went over it breaking off one of the mounting lugs and leaving a gaping hole in the Crankcase.

It was in the Post on the Monday morning to PAW.....and back on my doorstep fully fixed on the Wednesday Morning....Free of charge too !!!

That engine is one of the 2 I still have and performs faultlessly.

Now that is what I call service !!!

        Regards.........Mark.

Mark your experience sounds as horrific as my own saga with a beautiful twin cylinder Saito 130 engine,I fitted her into a high wing monoplane to run the engine in,and just to generally get the feel of things, the sound was magnificent and once I sorted out the onboard glow she ran and ticked over smoothly, anyway something happened that was a chance in a million doing so ,but it did ! after doing several circuits and touch and goes I was on finals and suddenly there was a loud 'thump' from up the top of the strip, after going to investigate what had happened I looked in horror at the mess before me,the model had struck a metal post minus a sign head on,it had knocked off one of the cylinders which was literally hanging downwards.

After sending the motor to Mr Aitree at Chudleigh in his magic model engine workshops he replied with the bill for damage,£375 plus VAT ! I never pursued the repair due to not being viable and presumbly he kept the engine for what he charged for the stripdown,it would probably have been a viable proposition for him as a dealer to do the work,so I cut my losses.

That post was the remnant of a council sign, the only one for miles around, and it lept out at my lovely engine.

The reason that I never noticed it was that the post was rusty and blended in with the long grass on the threshold to the strip,a sad day indeed and it hurt.
