Yay Me! I got a two for 1 airfix kit

    Howdy Guys,

Today I went to Little Rock, the state capitol to the hobby shops and purchased a few models, one of them being the AIRFIX 1:48th scale buccaneer. And much to my suprise, it contained two complete kits, so now I can do both paint schemes shown on the box.

I was shopping for airfix....since we all know they are no longer in production anywhere and was tickled to death when I found this little jewel had two complete kits in one box.

Oh, and just a little bit of gossip, the hobby store owners were talking about trumpeters new 1:35th scale stryker vehicle that should be coming out around the beginning of the new yr, so keep a look out for it, its supposed to be awesome according to the store owners.

    Have a good day,

    Greg

Gratz!!! Good to hear. You are making out better than I am. The way it looks, I may not be able to do the model I wanted to for my friend of the Bataan. Seems they have recently stopped producing it and I may not even be able to get my hands on one.

Thats happened to me on several occasions as well! We've also had a 1:72 spitfire in a 1:72 willies jeep box, god knows how they manged that one!

Bob- theres loads of ways of obtaining OOP kits, if you have the airfix code number it makes it easier!

          Howdy Squiffy,

This was the 1:48th scale H.S. Buccaneer kit 09180 by airfix. I said two complete kits, however, it is actually two complete plastic kits (partwise), there is only one decal sheet although it does contain decals for 5 versions.

But I am tickled to death with it, its like Christmas In October lol.

I also purchased Revells Mig 15 BIS in 1:48th scale and a Testors HSO (Hobby shop only) H43 Huskie twin rotor rescue helicopter in 1:32 scale and a 1:72nd scale Cessna T 50 Bobcat twin engine light transport plane by Pavla Models.

As it stands right now, I can't even die....I have too many models to build before I will be allowed to do so. I would be willing to guess I have 30 + models either in boxes or started in boxes right now.

          Anyway, have a good day,

          Greg

If I can dredge the depths of my memory isn't Little Rock a Spa Town?

I know I have been there with a girlfreind many years ago, she was from Texarkana, and I am sure that was the place with all the natural spring baths. Very pleasant old town with a bit of character if I have the right place.

              Howdy Richard,

You are thinking of Hot Springs, Arkansas, about 45 minutes sw of Little Rock. LR is the state Capital, Hot Springs is known as "the spa city".

It has horse racing, and like you said, natural hot springs bath houses, and at one time was the summer home of Al Capone, the American Gangster (I have visited his old house on several occassions). In the early part of last century, it was home to all sorts of Gambling, although all gambling except horse races has been outlawed since then.

There are several huge lakes in the hot springs area, man made lakes that is, and is a hot spot for diving enthusiast (there are several old towns submerged under these lakes that divers can swim in and out of.

Hot Springs is also about 30 to 45 minutes from Murfreesboro, Arkansas, which is home to the only Diamond mine in the US....and its a diamond mine where tourist can visit and dig for free and keep any diamonds they may find. A 16.37-carat white diamond was discovered in 1975 by a park visitor from Amarillo, Texas. The largest diamond to ever be unearthed at the site was a 40.23-carat white rose-tinted diamond found in 1924. ( you can read more on the park at: http://www.arkansasstateparks.com/craterofdiamonds ).

Both little rock and Hot springs are "must see" areas of Arkansas.

Below is a map of arkansas, Little Rock is about dead center, Hot Springs is lower and to the left and Murfreesboro is lower and to the left of that. Texarkana is in the lower left corner of the state.

I am in Pine Bluff, which is just to the south and east of Little Rock.

I hope the map shows up, it looks like the .gif hasnt loaded properly as of the time I tried to post it. (if not, you can view the map at this link: http://www.arkansasstateparks.com/images/maps/locator/asp_map_craterofdiamonds.gif ).

In the northeast corner of the state is Crowleys ridge, part of the "new Madrid" fault line, this is the fault line that caused the mighty mississippi river to actually flow backwards in the 1800's when a huge earthquake, similar to the size of the one that leveled San Fransisco, California struck the central United States.

              Have a good day,

              Greg

That's the place GW. I tried to learn how to ride a water jet ski on one of those lakes to no avail. (The proper ones where you stand up on them) My legs ached for days!

Very interesting place though and, as you say, well worth a visit.

                      Greg,

Its more common that would you think, the fact it has so many decal options means you should get most of the transfers you need from the noe sheet, what a total result!

I have both the bobcat and the huskie in stock! Other than the really silly cardboard boxes the testors kits arnt too bad! I cant comment on the bobcat but if its as good as the rest of the pavla range you should have fun!

(belive it or not, one of the best cessna models ive seen is actually the Minicraft version! odd huh!)

                          Howdy Guys,

I was browsing for some refference photos of other peoples builds of the HS Buccaneer and came across a great site that seems to have not only a "build" on the site, but alot of other info on the Bucc. as well.

If you get a chance, check out this link: the photos are copyrighted or I would have posted a few here.

http://www.blackburn-buccaneer.co.uk/Contents.html There are several models of the Buccaneer on this site, in both 1:48th and 1:72nd scales. Its really informative and well worth the time to check out. It lists all sortsa useful refference material as well as some great photos.

Below are some photos of the Airfix 1:48th scale Bucc as shown in links attached to the above site:

The Gray and Desert pink versions are the versions I am seriously considering, the gray version for sure, since my model of the Canberra turned out so well in gray, despite it being a hidieous bright yellow in the box. (See my gallery, was an old model made in former soviet union ).

Anyway, be sure to check out the above site, like I said, if you are a history buff, especially of the buccaneer, this is the site for you.

                          Have a good day,

                          Greg
