    Scales are weird

Hi all I was thinking I've got a 1299 motorcycle engine to build that is 1/4 scale which should make it a aprox 350cc engine size and yet a 50cc Raleigh run about engine is probably at least 4 times the size, could someone explain what that's all about.

not really when you look at car engines a 2 litre engine is not twice the size ofa 1 litre, its only the cyliders that have more capacity but everything else does not have to increase by the same ratio.

Engine size is the total combined bore volume for combustion and nothing else. A smaller engine still require the same size gearbox etc. You can't scale those things for a lot of reasons.
Everything else is just the same. In fact the cylinder block(s) are just a small part of the whole package whereas the crankcase, pistons, fuel injection etc are more or less the same.
