Warrior AFV - Metal Grid Guards fitted around vehicle

I saw some images of some AFV's in Iraq fitted with these odd guards around the vehicle. Does anyone know what these are for?

They almost look like some kind of personel guarding to stop the tank running people over when they have to push through crowds of civilians throwing rocks etc...

What you are seeing is the armour upgrade all warrior's have now in iraq. Its there to reduce the threat of rpg's and other rockets.

This all came out on telic 4, due to increased fighting and was rushed in as a short term quick fix. Also some warriors also look as though they have skirts round then at the bottom. This is just plate steel bolted on to the 'special armour' protect the bottom quarter. Notice still no BOWMAN still CLANSMAN and still working with old style body armour. Though it might be ccoy 1PWRR in Alamara, but not so sure now. Might be telic 6 because it has a full set up of grills, commander will soon learn not to put his chest vest on the hatch..... lucky he's not in the town or he'd be chowing hot cocktail!

            Hello from Decatur,Al USA

As my first post to the group I would like to say I've been doing 1/35th military modeling for over 35 years. I've had a few contest winners but for the most part I build for fun. My job keeps me up to date with the modern systems and would like to help regarding technical questions on armor vehicles.

            Post again later

              RPG protection

This type of slat armor is used to damage the point detonating fuse on the RPGs bu crushing the inner and outer cones that supply the electrical pulse to the base detonator. If the round hits directly on the slat the additional standoff reduces the shape charge penetration. This type of armor is very common on the U.S. Stryker vehicles.
