Found a little piece of history

on my rounds today at work (collecting household recycling for the council) I stumbled across someone throwing these out...

All the papers are from 1940-45, there is a ration card, an I.D card and an old commando comic book that I used to love as a kid I had hundreds of them! All very interesting stuff and a great find!

The Images of War collection had facsimile papers with each edition, a campaign map and the first issue had the ration book and ID card included as an extra. Still have them all tucked away.

Commando comics, a blast from the past, I think they still print them.

The other items you've found there look interesting, some of the papers look genuinely from the era.

Even if I hadn't been a hoarder this I'd still say is a fantastic find!!!
It makes you think why on earth someone was throwing it away, but all I can think of is that someone's gone and are being cleaned up after and everything without value is going in the bin...

This will be very valuable when teaching your kids British history and being able to read the actual news from back then!

Cheers for the info bud, your right about the id and ration card being from the magazine. Shane that thought I'd stumbled across a genuine one ah well, still pretty cool. Will be able to show my boy when he's a bit older.

The newspapers do look real though and not reprints. Was having a read through them last night. Far more interesting than the rubbish the papers have to say nowadays.

As for the commando comic I used to have hundreds of them! Don't know where they are now though so was nice to have a flick through it!

            Cheers
            Jack
