Billiant idea. I was born, raised and still live in Bomber County. It would be a fitting tribute to all those connected with the Lancaster andvthe famous Dambusters.

glorifying war?...no, remembering those who brought freedom from tyranny
distraction for drivers?...what? like mobile phones, whats on the radio, advertising at the side of the road, rubber necking at any accident or a hundred and one other 'distractions'
should be a vulcan?......no, a vulcan was a deterrant, it was only used in combat for one very short war
not far from me is spitfire in the middle of an island commemorating the RAF fighter airfield that was there during the war, been there years

something of this kind should have been put up years ago, get it built is what i say

I find it strange that some people always have to complain about warmongery and death when in fact it stands for something completely different?!
Fantastic engineering for one, freedom another - and a memory of those who lost their lives so that we could live today.

I'd say it's about time you got a Lancaster as a monument and the complaints are bordering on silly... Distraction for drivers? That's so stupid I don't even know where to begin...

I wonder if they feel the same about CWGC gravestones, village war memorials, and so on?

While I agree with the sentiment of this I question the location but for any h&s excuse. It's been a long time since I used that section of the A46 but I don't remember it being a particularly busy road. Aren't there any better locations to put it so that it is seen by more people?

It might be better placed near a parking space so that people who want to photograph it have somewhere to stop safely.
