I remember a thread Guy did on him doing his friends house sign up for him.

It just just reminds you how many different circumstances our modeling skills can come into handy.

My little (well 15) sister had her friend round the other night who has a harry potter "wand" which she accidently knelt on and snapped (its only wood and resin) so here i am sanding, glueing and filling and tomorrow i will be sanding and painting.... A wand!

its nice to know i can be of some use!!

All in the days work of a true scale-modeller RJ,our sevices are always in demand.

That is the whole point of making and creating things with our own hands,these skills are applied in everyday life.

I mourn the passing of metalwork,woodwork and bookbinding in schools,that is why as a nation we have become assemblers of cars made abroad,and the Japanese and China have taken over virtually every industry we once had,when was the last time you saw 'Made in Britain' on something ?

So hang onto those skills,modellers and artists are becoming some of the last bastions of skills and crafts.

I think MIG probably sell that but it'll come in a 9ml pot and cost some bewilderingly high sum. :P

Hello all, it is funny that you should say that Richard, that your services are needed to fix wands. We're just in the midst of the school holidays here and every night when I come home from work (the place we escape to sanity) some of my childrens pals (aged between 3 & 9) have appeared at the door with numerous broken things. Apparently if they were to take them to their fathers to repair there'd be no chance and into the bucket said broken item would go. Now I cannot get near my workbench for these precious toys being in various states of repair. Roll on next Monday when the schools go back after their two weeks off !

Favourite topics here!! I did both woodwork and metalwork at school and learned a lot that I have put to good use in later life.

How many people pre-drill both a clearance hole and a pilot hole for a wood screw? Those who don't wonder why the wood splits.

How many people know how to size a wood drill to a rawl plug and drill the correct hole? Those who don't wonder why the shelf falls down.

How many people know that a 1BA thread is the same diameter and pitch as an M6 thread so you can get away with interchanging them?

All these really basic simple skills are fast becoming lost to future generations and people will know no more than how to glue pieces of MDF together and spray paint it.

Richard as for mending your sisters wand she will be so proud to have a brother who can fix things for her and she will always cherish the fact that you take the time to do so.

As for "Pixie Dust" I'm afraid Disney keeps the license very closely guarded and even I have to seek special permission to draw it from the stores and only then if I can prove that it is a very special need.

We used a lot in dry dock!!!

id be more worried about the wood drill and why it was being used to drill a hole for a rawl plug
