    Free anti virus

Which free anti virus software do you use ? I'm using AVG, and have done for years, but I'm now trying to install Call of Duty Infinite warfare and it seems AVG might be causing problems. I've tried whitelisting etc, but nothing seems to work. Having said that, I don't find AVG on a W10 platform easy to navigate, so I could have missed something out.

AVG used to be the best software out there - until a group of rogue sales people got their hand on it that is...
The last two years they've ruined AVG with popups and harassment instead of updating the software and we all left the sinking ship!

The best one out there today I've found to be Avira.
I've worked with computer security for most of my life so I kinda know what to look for with these programs and Avira was a worthy successor

AVG works fine. CoD Infinite Warfare is however a pile of bug-ridden excrement. What graphics card do you have?

Just temporarily turn off AVG when you install. That should solve the problem, but it installed fine for me back when it was released. I was probably still running AVG back then?
There's nothing wrong with AVG as anti-virus but the company behind it are bogus and they've added really annoying popups etc even if you've got a license - and they refuse to remove this popup, that's why they lost 50% of their users last year.

Are you installing the Steam version or something else of Infinite Warfare?

I agree with Pete that Infinite Warfare is a pile of crap. CoD today are solely developed for console and then hastily ported to Windows by 3:rd party for cheap.
I've got friends working at Infinity Ward, Activision, Digital Illusions and Machinegames (and I've done a brief stint there myself) so I know how they operate... There's no money in the world that could get me working for any of them again!

Thanks Jens. I had noticed AVG popping up far too frequently so I think it's time to go. I'll have a look at Avira.

Ah right, you're not going to like this. It's a Dell inspiron with a Nvidia Geforce GT 625. I know it's old, but annoyingly, the game loads, runs through the introduction video, and nearly launches, with the progress bar stopping just before the end. And that's it, then it's Alt tab to shut it down. I had hoped, if the system wasn't up to it, it would have stopped me installing it.

That's not an easy one to answer. I'm now installing it to a different computer (brand new from Santa - with AVG), via 6 CD's (brand new - not copies or anything dodgy) and it has taken nearly all day. How ? Steam is involved as I had to resurrect an old account for it to load, and the game seems to want to launch via steam. Does that make any sense ?

I'd be very surprised if you'll get the game to even start on that graphics card because it's not powerful enough.
Bare minimum to start Infinite Warfare is a GTX 660 (according to documentation) but with the latest patches I'd be surprised if it runs at all with less than a GTX 960. At least if you want a descent frame rate.
Also the GT 625 is designed to be used with type M systems, i.e. mobile systems that runs with less power consumption and this means that it's designed to be "moderate".

By sounds of things you are installing the Steam version, not that it's going to help you here.

I've got a GTX 970 and it's not running at 60 fps at many places and I've got a powerful computer in all other aspects. 32 GB RAM and a quad core i7 cpu.

Mine did exactly that until I upgraded the graphics card. You need a 4GB card.

Yes that's sort of the problem. An old machine. But I did uninstall AVG and installed Avira, and yes, the game did run, but badly, the graphics card was maxed out at 100%. But, not to worry, even though it took a day to install on the new machine, it runs great, even with AVG ? It's a funny old world.

You are spot on old chap. The game works fine on the new computer (with AVG) but not the old one. I knew I was pushing my luck with the old computer.

Well thank you both for helping me out here. I'll leave this old machine alone and just keep the games on the new one. Oh yes, and I'm ditching AVG. Cheers chaps.......

I'm using AVG, but sometimes it makes my laptop slow. Why is it?
