    A model partly ruined :(

    I am almost finished the Apollo Command Module (Revell) 1:96 scale. Last night I was adding the finishing touches. Around the module there are white lines so I applied some tape around it to paint straight white lines.

    So far so good! As I started painting however the paint was not sticking! I was using Matt White (5) - Revell. I have noticed white in both revell enamel and in tamiya acrylic don't stick and are runny. As I took the tape off the white line looked ok from a distance but up close there are just brush lines and different consistency of paint .

      Sorry to hear about the bad luck, can you not rub it down and re-do the white with another make...

          Me too.... hoped for pics!

          I did a white band on my bj109 the other day, spraying thin coat after thin coat and by the time it really covered it looked a bit too thick! Definitely a problem colour.

              I've found quite often that gloss white paint seems to lose its properies as it gets older, yet the matt white seems to be more usable for longer.

              Makes no difference how well you stir it beforehand, sometimes it just seems to "go off"

              Have to agree with Barry ... one of the problem colours!

                  Stefan. If you are using acrylics wonder if a coat of Vallejo white primer may do the trick before the finished coat. The primers are more dense & provide a good base.

                  Matter of interest Vallejo have increased now to 10 primer colours.

                      The easiest way to paint/spray white? Use a white primer. My favourite Halfords plastic primer comes in this colour though generally I use the grey.

                      Otherwise you just have to take time and build the colour up in light coats.

                          I find that matt white covers a lot better than the glossy ones, thus I do 99% of my white bits (that just sounds wrong in so many ways!!!) with matt and then if it needs to be shiny, give it a quick clear coat with the required sheen.

                          TBH I don't think gloss yellow is much better! (I just done the Suez stripes on a Venom; Black and Yellow...)
