    Proxxon Miniature Power tools

I've been looking to purchase a small precision bench drill and came across the proxxon range of tools, they sell a collet Drill/Grinder available with a decent looking drill stand and small diecast vice:

Usable for prolonged periods when drilling, milling, grinding, polishing, cleaning, cutting and even engraving.

Ideal for mechanics, model builders, jewellers, opticians and electronic enthusiasts and professionals.

Proxxon miniature power tools for modelling:

High quality fine power tools for model makers, precision mechanics, opticians and many more as well as premium hand tools for professional use (industry, workshop, assembly).

I just wondered if anyone else has any experience of this make - quality looks good.

From what I have seen of the Proxxon range at shows they are a bit on the expensive side but I think they are quite good quality and, as usual, you get what you pay for. I was tempted by a vertical drill at one point but in the end went for a full blown milling machine that does a lot more in the way of machining.

If you can afford them I think you will get a good peice of kit that should last you a long time but check out the machines at Chester as well at this link:

Hello all, Alan you may also like to check out gthe range from Rotozip at a http://www.rotozipeurope.com/gb/en/start/index.htm these are being marketed quite agressively at present (pun intended) with the run up to Christmas. there will be something in the range that'll take your fancy. Proxxon are at the upper end of the cost/benefit range whereas the Rotozip is more of a good compromise.

      cheers

        Proxxon tools

        Hello Alan,

after using Proxxon[TM] tools for years now, I can't share the opinion of Bunkerbarge considering those as expensive. The quality of Proxxon tools is extraordinary (imho better than Dremel[TM]). The micromot drilling machine I use is utterly not running out-of-centre, has a lot of power and the rev adjustment is continuous but far from self adjusting while workinig.

The range of available accessories is wide and of similar quality.

The orbital sander is working strongly, the paper fixing is reliable.

In my opinion those tools are not (even a Euro) more expensive than cheap copies for us modelers as they are working reliable for years on a high standard instead of rather burning wood instead of cutting, drilling while running out-of-center and turning up the revs just when you need both hands. All those errors cost material and time. Just imagine you're quite satisfied with a difficult part... until it came to the "accident" while drilling the last hole.

I had some "cheap" micro drilling machines before but all of them broke or came out of the shop with errors making them a middle-rated hammer... not more. Perhaps those are useful for avarage do-it-yourselfers utilising the tool once a leap year, but not for modelling purposes.

I hope I was able to help you and... No, I'm neither working with Proxxon nor am I a sales representative. ;-)

        Greets from the continent

        Dirk.

I Have Got Through 3 Dremels Over The Years, Even The 'pro' Variety Are Exhaustable !- But Quality Has Improved Massively Now They Are Part Of The Bosch Group,

But Back To The Proxxon Tools........ I Have Got The Mains Powered Proxxon Table Top Circular Saw And It Is Fantastic, The Best Money I Have Ever Spent, Interchanghable Blades, High Quality Motor And Bearings, Its A Smooth Powerful Little Saw, Its Man Enough To Cut A Variety Of Materials, Timbers, Plastics, Acrylics, And Even Alumininium Sheet- The Quality Of Manufacture Is Top Class, I Would Have No Hesitation In Recommending Proxxon.....

I would recommend Proxxon tools every time. I have three of their low voltage tools and find them to be of excellent quality and perfect for modelling.

              Thanks for the help guys.

I though the quality looked good and the specification of the proxxon range and materials used all seemed to tie in with theit "professional" name.

Dremel although good quality all seem a bit lightweight and rely heavily on plastics wheres the proxxon range seem to use cast aluminium for their bearing housings and have proper hardened collets with 3 slits for concentricity which is always good.

I think I'll buy myself some proxxon tools for xmas presents to myself! :P
