    Men and their sheds...

I thought it might be nice to start a thread with a few images of our various setups where we work on our scale models.

At the moment I'm still setting up a workspace so it's nothing more than a dissorganised couple of IKEA tabletops and a beech tray filling up with too many tools...

Alan, this thread makes me smile as it reminds me of Nigels workbench competition over a year ago or so.

Everyone submited pictures of thier workbenches which was very interesting to say the least. I think it's a geat idea to run it again and I will sort out a couple of pictures of my play room.

I have to say though I have the luxury of a nice warm integral garage and workshop. I banned all gardening tools to the shed which is firmly the domain of the wife!!

I noticed how neat your workbench was in those photos of the Ben Ain! All racked and benched out...

I was also admiring the way all the boat's R/C cabling was routed and clipped to the side of the hull. That really is a very shipshape engine room.

Wonwings workplace to get the ball rolling.

Well I will get the ball rolling, this is my winter abode, below is my library/files section, and below that is the retired model area which I call the museum, these are models that have become too heavy after repairs but seem a pity to scrap off,the workbench is always busy, here I have my overflow book area always handy, latest addition to the workplace is my wireless laptop to keep me in touch with you here,I spend many happy hours building and not happy unless surrounded by models and tools.

OK this is what mine looked like this morning.

On the garage side I am doing some rerigging of the Admiralty Tug Enigma after fitting a new 'Old Smokey' smoke generator, which looks brilliant. The previous owner fitted far too much elasticated threads which sag horribly with age and look a mess. I am replacing as much as possible with normal thread after which the standing rigging will be painted up black and the running rigging will be left in a light brown colour. I'm also going to treat her to a new flag

On the workshop side the 'Ben Ain' progresses slowly upwards as the flying bridge planking progresses.

The pool table was my Dads who played most evenings with my Mum until he died nearly ten years ago. Unfortunately my local friends who played have all moved out of the area and Annette can't hold a cue to save her life. Never mind, one day I'll find a challenger.

Oh deary me Bunky... that green biazed building-table wont work. I know it is dead flat but you will NEVER be able to stick the pins in...it is made of slate dont-ya-know ! Furthermore that looks like a domestic cleaning thingy..em Hooter or Hover, I think it is for sucking-up dust or something...a serious offence in my domain. Like the bikes though ..and the "yats". Only one plane, deprived childhood I reckon.....and NOPE I havent touched my mess since the last pics so there ! Barry, you HAVE had a tidy-up , you`ll never be able to find anything again. Looks dust free too, standards are slipping these days, I blame RTFs.

                  Heheh...

Some nice photo's there, have to admit that workshop does look a little too tidy for my liking though...we want to see some swarf around that milling machine or else we might have to get some crochet doilies made for you to put underneath them or something.

I have to say I don't use the machines as much as I would like but they are brilliant if you just want to make a little something. Only last night working on rerigging the tug I noticed the aft mast was a bit wobbly when the shrouds wee removed. When I investigated underneath I noticed that it didn't protrude below the deck so it was sadly lacking in support. One of the disadvantages of buying second hand.

Anyway I had made up a tubular extension in a few minutes on the lathe from a peice of turned down aluminium tube and glued it into a bracing peice. I could never have done it without the lathe.

I did H**ver up the swarf afterwards though.

:grinball2: I can't believe modeling takes place in THAT pair of rooms. Not a dent, scratch, or drip mark. Now Barry's place looks more believable albiet he must be of small and slim stature.

One of my spaces change from Garage, storeroom, woodwork, metalwork and occassional model plane work. Slim and tidy I am not. I have recently had an extra depth if insulation added to the loft so not much going on there yet. I envy (sort of) THAT pair of rooms tho'.

From left to right an anticlockwise panoramic trip around my half of the shed; last but not least my recent “extension” to store the models away from the dust etc.

How I envy Richard all that space!!

Nice clinical workplace Bunkers,I think these workshops reflect the personality of the owners/users very much, love the walk through to the garage and overflow storage area and those lovely motorcycles as well,it is a real seafarers den.

Lovely workspace,I see that you managed to get a TSR.2 kit.
