    Newbie saying hi!

Hi all i am a avid modeller and welcome a place such as this to share ideas and enthusiasm for all modelling types. Me personally i will make most things if it sits on a shelf and says "buy me" then i cant resist. Currently im building a 1/16 King Tiger (Tamiya) Along with a Trumpeter 1/24 FW190 D9 Whilst trying to find the nerve to start a Comet Minatures Fireball XL5 vacform. I love to super detail as well as build straight from the box. So a big hello to you all I really look forward to learning new things and hopefully maybe contributing a tiny bit

I have noticed that posts are quite few and far between in some cases pleae dont take this the wrong way but are we as a group doing everything we can to encourage modellers to join (i am a newbie so i have no idea) i just would like a thriving community that offers ideas and is prepared to challenge conventional thinking if at all possible. Also share their expeirences! it doesnt matter if their models are not up to competition standard (we have all been there) so come on guys n gals lets make this community thrive!!!!!!!!!

If you have any ideas on how to get people to post then please share, we have on average 350 unique visitors a day but it seems most just come to read, it is a shame that there arn't more posts, you know what they say, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink, so if people are happy just reading the posts and getting the information they need then the forum is serving it's purposes.

As more and more people discover the forum a percentage will stay and post. However small this is, it means it will get bigger and better as we go on

They are really good, definitely not 'nothing special' - they are display case quality

                            Nigel,

I am also a relatively new member of this forum and I have to admit to not initially knowing quite what to expect to get out of it. I started a thread about the building of my model steam coaster and put a lot of time and effort into the posts.

I did get quite discouraged and put off at the lack of responses to my messages and gave up at one point but then I came to realise that, as with most things in life, I was only looking for what I was trying to get out of it.

Eventually someone who is making the exact same kit told me how much he appreciated the postings and it suddenly made me realise that I should be thinking more about what I can give rather than what I can recieve and it seemed to make a bit more sense.

This is a relatively new and small forum and it will only succeed and grow if the likes of you and me continue to selflessly add our messages for all others to see. I do hope that this forum grows as I always enjoy having a browse through and there always seems to be the odd message of interest.

Anyway welcome to Scale Models, I look forward to your postings and your pictures. Fireball XL5, now that brings back many fond memories, I bet there are a fair number of readers here who do not know what you are talking about. I have to admit to being young at the time but the Andersons did a lot for my interest in modelling.

I remember very vividly the first Thunderbirds I ever saw, which was the one where Fireflash couldn't land because her landing gear was damaged and they used some tractor units from Thunderbird Two for it to land on. The modelling was years ahead of its time and completely blew my mind mainly as I think it was the first time I had seen models that were weathered and made to look realistic. Great stuff.

Good luck with the posts and when you see another newbie join drop them a word of encouragement.

                            All the very best

                            Richard

Excellent pictures nigel, and you seem to have a nice eye for going that bit further with your models. As for the comments made in reference to post`s that have had a great deal of time spent on creating them with little recognition, i think you have may slightly ( possibly) missed the mark on this one. you are right in saying that this forum is still in its infancy and does require to grow to stay, there are things operating in the background constantly to help the forum grow, recent competitions have shown a very good response to this, it pains me slightly that you have felt let down by the forum ( thats how it appears to come accross) as myself and a few others have done a lot too help the forum. Your ben ain post i though was very informative and a pleasure to read, the work put into it with the steam plant is astonishing, However the forum has always tried to cover as many aspects of modelling as possible, you will find depending on time of year and weather that some areas show more posts than others. it seems it`s the way it works. Not everyone browsing at that point will feel obliged to post a reply as to the quality of your work or post, it doesn`t mean that peopel dont appreciate the work behind the scenes, at the time of writing this there have been well over 600 views of your post, not a bad record !

None of the members here are forced to post, the forum is purely a place to discuss and share tips, show current projects and future projects and generaqlly be with like minded people, if you dig about you will see lots and lots of information posted by wonwinglo, a lot of it dedicated to the flying side of the hobby, but not all of it , although the information is not usefull to you at the time it`s posted , it`s there for browsing. it can be a bad habit to log in and just check new posts, there`s awealth of info in posts dating back months.

All in all, i think that all members posts are fully apreciated in their content and what has gone into posting them.
